U.S. Deletes, Alters Gender Issue Web Data -Report
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration has stripped information on a range of women's issues from government Web sites, apparently in pursuit of a political agenda, researchers reported on Wednesday.

"Vital information is being deleted, buried, distorted and has otherwise gone missing from government Web sites and publications," Linda Basch, president of the National Council for Research on Women, said in a telephone interview.

"Taken cumulatively, this has an enormously negative effect on women and girls."

A council report said the missing information fell into four categories: women's health; their economic status; objective scientific data; and information aimed at protecting women and girls and helping them advance.

2. Report
http://www.ncrw.org/misinfo/index.htm

DID YOU KNOW? . . .

SCIENCE IS BEING QUESTIONED - Scientific data on the effectiveness of condoms in preventing AIDS has been called into question on government websites and abstinence touted instead.

CRUCIAL OFFICES HAVE BEEN DISBANDED - Front-line offices designed to assure that the concerns of women are addressed in policy development, such as the Office of Women's Initiatives and Outreach in the White House, have disappeared.

THE PUBLIC IS BEING MISLED - Chief actuary of the Medicare program Richard S. Foster was ordered not to provide requested information to Congress on the actual cost of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003, while government- produced television ads have masqueraded as news reports about expanded Medicare coverage.

SCIENTIFIC PANELS ARE BEING STACKED. . .

INFORMATION RESOURCES HAVE BEEN ABANDONED

Its report cited a fact sheet from the Centers of Disease Control that focused on the advantages of using condoms to prevent sexually transmitted disease; it was revised in December 2002 to say evidence on condoms' effectiveness in curbing these diseases was inconclusive.

The National Cancer Institute's Web site was changed in 2002 to say studies linking abortion and breast cancer were inconsistent; after an outcry from scientists, the institute later amended that to say abortion is not associated with increased breast cancer risk.

25 PUBLICATIONS DELETED

At the Labor Department's Women's Bureau Web site, the report said 25 key publications on subjects ranging from pay equity to child care to issues relating to black and Latina women and women business owners had been deleted with no explanation.

5. Typical of the fundy mentality of this misadministration.
Man is to dominate the woman. Man will tell the woman what she needs to know and how she is to think. Sounds like Rush and his ditto monkeys, doesn't it?

I'm not losing hope but I'm feeling the ability to fight is being tested.

It is like this administration is using that book as a game plan.

10. Slate has Dick Morris column in their "comic" section ..
he says .. <snip>
Women disagree with the entire Bush strategy of fighting terrorism. Offered a choice between "letting terrorists know we will fight back aggressively" and "working with other nations," men opt for fighting aggressively by 53 to 41 percent while women want us to work with other nations instead by 54 to 36 percent - a gender gap of 30 points.
<snip>
If Bush permanently alienates women by his words and tone in the War on Terror, he'll throw away the issue that he needs to carry him into a second term.

I can't stand Dick, but here's hoping he's right about this!!

33. Not true but quite clever manipulation of words.
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 09:25 AM by jdjkkse
Clinton was elected by a female majority.
Clinton fought terrorists agressively, and in doing so prevented the millenium attacks and project Volchenka (?), and would have prevented 9/11 if given the chance.
And worked with other nations.

Bush was elected by a majority of men.
Bush did NOTHING to stop terrorists.
When terrorists finally did attack, Bush did nothing but sit in a classroom and read to children.
To make it look good, Bush made a half-hiney attempt in Afghanistan, the end result of which is that they are worse off now than before.
Then, INSTEAD OF FIGHTING BACK AGRESSIVELY, Bush got us into this quagmire in Iraq, which has created more terrorists and killed far more people than 9/11, although Iraq wasn't involved in the 9/11 attacks.
So it would look like if one wanted to rephrase Dick Morris to reflect the true facts, it would seem that women want to fight the real terrorists aggressively, and men just want to fight anyone for no good reason. But that's not true, because fighting terrorism is not a gender issue. It's an intelligence issue in both senses of the word.

edit: oops, sorry for suggesting that Bush was "elected". I should have said more men voted for Bush.

14. get this info out to swing-vote women!
Or to the young women they say usually don't vote. I worry that those young women don't have the memories I have (I'm 59) of discrimination against women, especially those who tried to advance in traditionally male jobs.

15. Lost in the memory hole
...For some reason they were nicknamed memory holes. When one knew that any document was due for destruction, or even when one saw a scrap of waste paper lying about, it was an automatic action to lift the flap of the nearest memory hole and drop it in, whereupon it would be whirled away on a current of warm air to the enormous furnaces which were hidden somewhere in the recesses of the building.
...
What happened in the unseen labyrinth to which the pneumatic tubes led, he did not know in detail, but he did know in general terms. As soon as all the corrections which happened to be necessary in any particular number of The Times had been assembled and collated, that number would be reprinted, the original copy destroyed, and the corrected copy placed on the files in its stead. This process of continuous alteration was applied not only to newspapers, but to books, periodicals, pamphlets, posters, leaflets, films, sound-tracks, cartoons, photographs -- to every kind of literature or documentation which might conceivably hold any political or ideological significance. Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date.

32. This is the history of religion. Which used to be gov't.
And soon will be again if W. has his way. That's why they want to move faith into gov't, because you HAVE to suspend disbelief in religious matters. In intellectual matters you suspend belief and learn by observation. Crooks don't want anything questioned or observed, so they use God as a smokescreen, get into the part of your brain that believes without question, and wring you out to dry.

They are systematically and intentionally manipulating information.

That is flatly f*cked-up.

23. The War Against Life, Women, and Children continues.
If men gave birth to babies with their own bodies, they wouldn't be so quick to destroy life.

Being poor with no health insurance, my pregnant wife and I just spent hours at a clinic getting her an examination.
I spent many hours by myself waiting surrounded by pregnant young women with no male in attendance to support them. Maybe an anxious mother or girlfriend.

I read the pamphlet coaching women to get help when they are abused by the men in their lives. It said "no matter what excuses you think you need to make for him, you do not deserve to be abused, hit, or threatened. Go stay with a relative or find a shelter. You deserve love and respect." I wish children were raised to believe this when they are beaten. Violent government creates a violent culture.

My own landlady with two children just had to get a restraining order against her violent husband.

My stepfather beat the living shit out of me and bullied my mother.

Women of the world-take control away from the men and bring your life-affirming values to seats of power. We need you.
Signed, a man who wants peace.

24. Thank you for sharing that very personal story.
My very best wishes to you, your wife and your baby to be. :hi:

I did some work relating to domestic and child abuse. It was pretty discouraging to witness how prevalent it is in our country.

I agree with your assessment that a violent government tends to create a violent society. I also agree that women are generally more life-affirming, less aggressive than men. It's a gender difference thing.

We have so much work to do to improve the quality of life in this country.

31. Time to trot out the women to soften his image.
Karen's been making the rounds. Has Laura? I'm sure they've lined up a parade of Schafley/Coulter-bots to make the TV circuit praising Smirk, saying how "safe" he makes them feel. They admire his strength and determination for protecting the Motherland, oops, Homeland. Thank the Lord we have someone in the White House who can take charge and defend all women and the unborn, of course. Our fearless President loves women and does everthing in his power to make sure they are safe, protected, shielded from the horrors of this scary world and allowed to stay home and clean their bathrooms with peace of mind knowing the Almight has chosen him as the one true leader of the bestest #1 country in the history of our God-created world!

We need a restraining order against this admimistration called impeachment for it's beating of women and children.

This is the strongest theme to appeal to all Americans and Kerry should push it.

And cite Ahnuld the Gropinator who attacked atleast 16 women to cut short his play for a presidential run.
