State troopers clear Occupy tents from Olympia park

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Washington State troopers have cleared Occupy Olympia campers from Heritage Park.

Troopers had brief arguments but made no arrests as they removed tents Friday morning and erected a temporarily fence around the park. Trooper J.J. Gundermann said they went slow to be as peaceful as possible. Campers who refused to leave would have been arrested.

The state Department of Enterprise Services posted eviction notices Thursday, citing concerns about drug use and graffiti. About two dozen people had remained at dawn in the park where demonstrators had camped since mid-October.

Occupy Olympia spokeswoman Elinor Paulus says about three dozen others moved about 1 a.m. Friday into a vacant building and declared it the Rachel Corrie Community Center. Corrie was the Olympia activist killed in 2003 by an Israeli bulldozer in Gaza.

Graffiti. depends on how one looks at it. One guy I knew in college created a worldwide attraction in Waterloo, IA but SPRAY painting the Sistine chapel on the top of his restaurant :) touching fingers??

like hello he had a unique graffiti style that was cool. many businesses wanted it on their buildings near where I live. Kinda faded with time but that ceiling won't. although it's an old building so hope it doesn't burn down like many do.

3. Check the pics in that updated article...
one questionably-sourced pic of a handful of nothing much. The group is a nice eclectic mix of folk from all walks of life, learning from one another and building new affinities during the past months, so it's always possible that someone may have had a pill in their pocket.

The news on KOMO 4 this evening showed them being kicked out of the place that the Occupiers had moved to earlier this morning, a vacant building that was immediately dubbed the "Rachel Corrie Community Center".

Evicted twice in one day.

Here's another completely different report from KING 5 News in Seattle, talking about both evictions:

5. They're not giving up...
You can get a general idea of what's going on at a few different places. For a more mainstream source, see here:

The best possible way to get informed is to find an Occupy! near you and just go down and spend a little time, talking with people.
