Signature-gathering can begin on Jean Quan recall
Source: SF Chron

A petition to recall Oakland Mayor Jean Quan was certified Wednesday for signature gathering just as a second group of residents submitted their own recall petition against the increasingly embattled mayor.

The backers of the first petition will have 160 days to collect roughly 20,000 valid signatures of registered Oakland voters, giving them a deadline of May 14.

Gene Hazzard, a photographer for the Oakland Post who has been politically active in the black community submitted the first petition and is controlling the campaign. Hazzard did not return calls Wednesday.

Hazzard was seen by several Oakland residents as being too controlling, leading to the creation of the two other groups.

This is why ranked-choice voting is hardly a good idea; Quan was elected that way.

1. Good. Get rid of her.
And get rid of any other mayor who allows police brutality.

What's your point?

Do you think nothing should happen to her, she should just keep being Mayor and giving orders to the chief of police and other city officials?

11. Nothing, but this action is preferable to the violence we have seen emanating from this group.
It wouldn't surprise me to see them go after the ILWU leadership next.

"Only ILWU members or their elected representatives can authorize job actions on behalf of the union, and any decisions made by groups outside of the union?s democratic process do not hold water, regardless of the intent."

6. just take the petition to a group of marines in the area
and should get most of them. Marine's stand up for other Marine's.

10. I'm guessing most Marines are Republicans who will be happy to sign this petition for all the
wrong reasons.

Still, a signature is a signature.
