Feds raid Detroit box company; arrest alleges hiring of undocumented workers
Source: Detroit News

Detroit Federal immigration and Homeland Security agents raided a Detroit box company Tuesday morning and arrested a manager who is accused of hiring undocumented workers.

Edward Schlacht, 48, a supervisor at Grigg Box Company, Inc., was charged with knowingly accepting false documentation from workers, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The arrest and search caps a nine-month probe that started when federal agents audited the company's hiring records. The audit identified 35 workers who used suspected counterfeit documents to obtain the jobs.

Schlacht, who faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted, will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in U.S. District Court.
