Former President George W. Bush to raise awareness for cervical, breast cancer on Africa trip
Source: AP

Former President George W. Bush will travel to Africa next month to raise awareness about cervical and breast cancer, an effort he calls a “natural extension” of a program launched during his presidency that helps fight AIDS on the continent.

Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and officials with the George W. Bush Institute are heading to Tanzania, Zambia and Ethiopia from Dec. 1 through Dec. 5, where they’ll visit clinics and meet with governmental and health care leaders.

“We believe it’s in our nation’s interest to deal with disease and set priorities and save lives,” Bush told The Associated Press.

In 2003, Bush launched the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, to expand AIDS prevention, treatment and support programs in countries hit hard by the epidemic.

29. Actually,
He was great with Africa and AIDS during his administration.. best ever.

I hate the POS, but there was one area where he was good, kind, and generous, and that was humanitarian things in Africa. I'm glad he's off to do this rather than lecture on any other subject.

Here is a good article on the matter:

GSK press release:

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) commits $1 million in cervical cancer vaccine to new cooperative effort aimed at reducing deaths from women's cancers
Issued: Tuesday 13 September 2011, London, UK and Washington, DC

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) today announced that it has committed $1 million in Cervarix® cervical cancer vaccine to the Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon partnership over the next five years. GSK has also pledged $50,000 to support the program operations. As a result of this donation, more than 10,000 girls and women will have access to vaccination.

The Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon partnership is a new initiative led by the George W. Bush Institute, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). The program, which launched today, will look to expand over time the availability of vital prevention, screening and treatment programs for cervical and breast cancer in developing countries.

26. He's working with the anti-gay anti-abortion Prez of Tanzania
Edited on Wed Nov-23-11 08:35 AM by Bragi
He's working on this with the President of Tanzania,. who is a zealous right-wing ringleader in the African/evangelical campaign against gays and against abortion choice.

I predict that in the end the evangelicals will make sure that any vaccine component of this particular initiative will be small and quiet.

23. yes, too late for our nation
We needed a radical masectomy for that malignant boob, but it's too late. Best that can be done now is to educate other nations such that they can discover and treat this cancer before it spreads.

27. Why do I get the feeling he's* just going along for the ride?
and taking credit for someone elses work?

"Bush*, former first lady Laura Bush and officials with the George W. Bush Institute are heading to Tanzania, Zambia and Ethiopia from Dec. 1 through Dec. 5, where they’ll visit clinics and meet with governmental and health care leaders."

that sociopath* doesn't have a humanitarian bone in his* body.

remember, this is just a press release. propaganda comes in many forms.
