Washington, DC, Apr. 23 (UPI) -- An analysis of statewide presidential polls published Friday by The Hotline shows Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Mass., ahead in the electoral college.

The Hotline's study of reputable statewide polls conducted since January 1, 2004, has Kerry holding an overall lead in 13 states containing 204 electoral votes. President George W. Bush is currently leading in 16 states and has a total of 174 electoral votes out of the 270 necessary for election.

18. Absolutely the dems and Kerry will build on this.
Bush should be leading by several points at this stage and he can barely break out of a deadlock. Kerry is going to run away with it.

4. Watch the freeps quickly revert back to their "it's too early" reaction
...to polls.

Rather pathetic, their blatant lack of consistency.

7. Start looking for
the repukes to start saying that winning by electoral college isn't fair;remember, they are blatant hypocrites about everything. Suddenly, only the popular vote will count, especially if * leads in the horse race.

8. They had a propaganda game plan for that in 2000

They had at the ready a nation wide ad campaign to shame Gore into resigning if he won the electoral and * won the popular vote.

Ironic ain't it.

10. Ironic
is one word for it. I prefer *'ed up myself. But you're right: I remember their plan, and how the media let them get away with turning on a dime when the opposite scenario ensued. Anyway, I'll take electoral college, popular vote, whatever I can get... JUST GET CHIMPO OUTTA THERE!

9. wow that is great news
Things are looking better for Kerry with every day that passes. Seems like everytime more "lies" are revealed, the better Kerry looks to everyone.

You can't fool all of the people all of the time!

Kerry in '04!

11. Who cares? I mean, I am more concerned about the
number of square miles each commands. You know - the red states vs. the blue states. That's what is really important. (/sarcasm off)

this one interpreting the numbers -- where an incumbant not wellover 50%, the odds do not favor increases. The undecideds as is logical are not ;ikely Bush voters..they're already in lockstep.

22. Yes, exactly
The more acreage you have surrounding you, the more important your vote is, as it has more surface area to spread out in. If your vote is clustered amongst many in a city, it's very, very densely compacted and very unimportant. :eyes:

12. How sweet would it be...
To beat Bush in the electoral vote but not the popular vote?

It would be as sweet as spitting in Karl Rove's eye.

20. I would not to win that way BUT id still smile when the GOP cried
I would rather win with the popular AND the elctoral vote but if Kerry won the Electoral and not the Popular you would hear the howl of every right wing phony and nutcase everywhere..Heads would explode on Fox news and there would be a call to repeal the elctoral vote. And I would laugh and laugh at these Hypocrates. And tell the just to Get over it..

This is to gin up the base and get 'em to do the work. As is often said on these pages, "run as if you are ten points behind."
