Occupy Oakland: footage shows police beating 'peaceful' Iraq war veteran
Source: The Guardian UK

He does not appear to be posing any threat, nor does he attempt to resist, yet he is hit numerous times by an officer clad in riot gear who appears determined to beat him to the ground.

Sabehgi, 32, an Oakland resident and former marine who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, has since undergone surgery on his spleen. He says it took hours for him to be taken to hospital, despite complaining of severe pain. Police have told the Guardian they are investigating the incident.

Ironic that vets/police are beating their fellow vets. Sad days in the USA.

Or that 80% of Americans want an end to the wars --

Or that 76% and more want MEDICARE FOR ALL --

This is a liberal nation -- we have a huge liberal voting bloc we should be

doing something with.

Everyone is looking to move to the LEFT --

BOTH parties are finished --

We need a strong challenger to Obama in 2012 -- !!

3. Mmmm... Don't think so. This was a new article releasing new video footage of Kayvan Sabehgi.

Is this the same man? And if he was simply 'on his way home from work' why was he wearing the bandana to protect from pepper spray?

Oakland police investigating after ex-marine Kayvan Sabehgi suffered a ruptured spleen in apparently unprovoked incident

Video footage has emerged of a police officer beating an Iraq war veteran so hard that he suffered a ruptured spleen in an apparently unprovoked incident at a recent Occupy protest in California.

The footage, which has been shared with the Guardian, shows Kayvan Sabehgi standing in front of a police line on the night of Occupy Oakland's general strike on 2 November, when he is set upon by an officer.

4. November 5th...
http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-11-05/news/30361659_1_second-iraq-war-vet-sabeghi-oakland-police

An Iraq war veteran is in intensive care with serious injuries after he says police beat him during the Occupy Oakland protests - the second Iraq vet to be seriously hurt during clashes near the camp.

Kayvan Sabehgi, 32, who also served in Afghanistan, said his troubles began when he encountered a group of cops near the encampment Wednesday.

"There was a group of police in front of me," Sabehgi told The Guardian from his hospital bed. "They told me to move, but I was like: 'Move to where?' There was nowhere to move

The footage is news however.

That is, I can get to the article, but the video link doesn't take me anywhere but back to the article again.

9. Thanks, that one works. Most of the skullduggery is at night. How horrible he's lost his spleen.
He could have easily died and it was agonizing. The chanting by the police was just creepy.

15. Ah, the LBN Police: Sadly though you are correct ...
... the unrestrained use of force by police against citizens is no longer "news" in the USA.

I would argue though, that this video, which corroborates the victim's previously reported account is LBN.

He was also left in agony in his cell after this life-threatening assault by a "peace officer."

More old news - remember this old man?

Only after The Guardian published such videos as this -
http://www.ask.com/videos/watch-video/g20-meltdown-death-of-ian-tomlinson-another-angle/FbS3jsVRM_8dQ2IFKh67Bw?ver=16
- did the UK "Independent" Police Commission deign to look into it: Not that it resulted in any substantive action against the, widely viewed in the UK as out-of-control, UK police. Though, admittedly, after the first two attempts at a complete white-washing failed, the savage policeman is going to trial this next summer for manslaughter. Given the conflicting autopsy findings (the first being done by a police hack) acquittal seems the most probable outcome.

And, back here in the Good 'Ole USA one might want to peruse this listing of how police treat people when they think they can get away with it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cases_of_police_brutality_in_the_United_States

I have never forgotten learning in an undergraduate psychology class all-too-long-ago the, to me then shocking, fact that the psychological profiles of police and of violent criminals are very similar. In retrospect, with only a little thought, it is shocking that it was shocking.

So, in the end, I must disagree with the LBN Police that this posting was not worthy of being on the Late Breaking News discussion.

Never mind that silly fellow, Obma, but Oakland deserves these rights.
