NEW YORK — Authorities say vandals torched three cars and scrawled Nazi swastikas and other hate messages on benches in a Jewish neighborhood in New York City, infuriating residents and causing thousands of dollars in damage.

The attack happened early Saturday in Brooklyn's Midwood section. Residents woke up at 5:30 a.m. to find the cars engulfed in flames. Someone spray painted the letters "KKK" on a van, and other messages targeting Jews were on the sidewalk.

7. This is really disturbing to me on so many levels...

I know this neighborhood very well - my Aunt lived there in the 50's and 60's and I spent much time in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. As a Jew, I'm outraged that this has happened in New York, no less. I really wonder if we will ever be rid of rampant anti-Semitism. I fear not with this story.

I was in the Navy with a guy that said, "I hate Jews". I asked him why and his answer was "Everybody does".
WTF? Have we progressed at all ? I'm not Jewish, but the guy was lucky he didn't say he hated people who boxed in civilian life.

MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (WABC) -- There are new clues in a startling anti-Semitic attack in a Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn.

People living in Midwood woke up Friday to cars set on fire and swastikas spray painted on the vehicles, a building and benches.

Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes says police have recovered 27 beer bottles and are testing them for DNA.

Midwood neighbors awoke on Friday to explosions and fire; cars burning along Ocean Parkway between Avenues I and J.

Seems to be a bit more organized than just kids from an apartment building.

I am just suggesting that it seems a bit more planned out based on the timing and the specific nature of the crime.

It's a guess on my part, given the area. There are a number of yeshivas, synagogues, day care centers and health facilities there. It is odd that they'd pick three cars on the street. There is a mediocre, mostly nonjewish public high school on the other side of the BQE and some apartment buildings. But it could be an organized antisemitic group too.

There have not been any arrests yet. There will be though because it has gotten a lot of press, this community does a lot for Brooklyn and the police are all over it.
