Occupy San Diego protesters ousted after dialogue ended, police say
Source: Latimes.

The San Diego police chief said a decision was made to clear Occupy San Diego protesters from the civic plaza Friday after talks broke down with protesters who refused to remove their tents.

Mayor Jerry Sanders, a former police chief, was informed in advance of the decision to remove the protesters and their belongings from the plaza behind City Hall, said Chief Bill Lansdowne.

An estimated 50 people were arrested in the early Friday morning sweep that took less than an hour.

There were no reports of injuries or use of tear gas. Police used plastic handcuffs to restrain those who were arrested.

"It was textbook," Lansdowne said.

I guess it is time to quote that RADICAL HIPPIE...those who make peaceful revolution impossible....

In case you don't know who that radical was, he once was the POTUS. But the elites are not getting it, they really are not. The mood is unlike any I have seen in my life.

1. "... in the early Friday morning sweep "
Like the Smoking Man (from The X-Files), hiding in the shadows and under the cover of darkness.

Nice...OUR police departments...paid for with the TAX DOLLARS of the 99%...and they work
against us.

As I keep saying, I hope, hope, HOPE that the OWS Movement will spur candidates at
each and every level of governments, that we, the majority can put in place.

Time to take back America.

2. Well that is standard tactics
Anybody familiar knows this.

As to candidates...I suspect that is comming too.

My problem is that as they keep closing this down it might lead to something else. It is unlike anything I've been at.

I went to document. I need to transcribe, expand notes.

3. Waking up people out of a sound sleep is a great tactic. You get exhausted, disoriented prey.

4. Hmmm...sounds like OWS needs to have 24/7 persons on guard and positioned
in various areas to watch for Police Militia movement.

7. It amazes me how we're suddenly back in 1968
It's not that there are no differences resulting from the passage of 43 years. The current generation of protesters is far more knowledgeable about economics and social forces, for one thing. But the mood is picking up exactly where it left off at the end of the 60s.

One thing that really makes me wonder where all this is going is that in the 60s, it took about three years to get to this point -- from the Berkeley Free Speech Movement and the first anti-war protests in 1964-65 to the all-out social upheaval of 1967-68. But now we've gone from zero to sixty in just a few weeks.

One thing I know about social upheavals is that they don't stand still. And another is that they're governed by the laws of chaos theory -- things can change very suddenly in response to small impacts and veer off in surprising directions. (The shooting of Scott Olsen may prove to be one of those "butterfly effect" events.)

So the question I keep asking over and over is "What happens next?"

More like 1932

11. 1932 in some ways -- but not in terms of the crackdown and the paranoia
In 1932, my mother was 16 and thinking about joining the Communist Party. She gave up on the idea because she was hoping for revolution and they just wanted her to get up early on Sunday mornings to sell the Daily Worker on street corners.

But that's just the point. Nobody in 1932 was actively planning revolution, not even the communists. They may have been hoping for it, expecting it at some future moment, but they weren't out there in public places trying to live it. Even J. Edgar Hoover, who had made his reputation after World War I by going after subversives, was getting glory by chasing gangsters instead.

In contrast, by the 1960s the repressive apparatus of the state had become finely developed. The 60s were the era of Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" ("cops bust in early May, orders from the D.A.") and of "paranoia strikes deep/into your life it will creep."

And that's the mood that's coming back now -- the crazy utopian revolutionary longings mingled with the terrible fear of infiltrators, provocateurs, and teargas.

9. Once they're let out of jail they'll simply move back into the park
I'm sure they fully expected to be arrested at some point which is why they didn't resist. Civil disobedience and all...
