Fund-Raising Begins for Pentagon Sept. 11 Memorial

WASHINGTON (AP) - The group planning a Sept. 11 memorial at the Pentagon launched a $30 million fund-raising drive Thursday to pay for its construction and maintenance.
Building the two-acre memorial, which will feature a grove of trees, reflecting pools and 184 benches engraved with the names of the victims, is estimated to cost $17.5 million. But more money is needed to establish an endowment for its maintenance. It will be financed with private donations.

Jim Laychak, president of the Pentagon Memorial Fund, announced a $1 million donation from Anheuser-Busch to kickoff the campaign.
