Sun SentinelWILTON MANORS— About 12 people taking part in the Occupy Fort Lauderdale protest were told to pack their tents and leave Equality Park on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after they were given approval to stay there.
Paul Hyman, executive director of the Pride Center, which owns the park at 2040 N. Dixie Highway, told the group in an email that insurance concerns prompted him to rescind the hospitality offer he extended Monday after the protesters were forced out of Bubier Park in Fort Lauderdale a day earlier.
Hyman said the group's presence also violated the city's occupancy code.
"The work of the Occupy movement, and that of Occupy Fort Lauderdale, is highly consistent with our mission," wrote Hyman. "Over time, we would be happy to support the group in other ways."
