Obama: could add 1 million new jobs (report from his Tom Joyner interview)
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Tuesday there were a range of policy options available that could create up to a million new U.S. jobs, in remarks ahead of a major economic speech that he will deliver next week.

Obama must boost growth and bring down unemployment to be confident of winning another White House term in the November 2012 general election. Economists are skeptical he will get Congress to agree to significant new spending on jobs.

"We don't have magic bullets, but what we do have, I think, is the capacity to do some things right now that would make a big difference," Obama said in a interview with popular radio talkshow host Tom Joyner.

The White House says details of the job creation proposals Obama will unveil next week are still being worked out and it has yet to announce an exact date or location for his speech, although Obama hinted at some of the ideas he would put forth.

in this same interview, Obama criticized George W. Bush's economic policies, didn't he?

8. Where is the Republican jobs plan? What is HoR doing about jobs?
Every post here should be directed at the complete lack of anything regarding jobs coming out of the RepubliCON majority House of Representatives (HoR). After that the blame for this abysmal economy should be squarely laid at the feet of the RepubliCON party and the 8 years of Bush league government that got us here. Quit carping and snarking this Administration. Given the OBSTRUCTIONIST REPUBLICON CONGRESS this administration has done wonders in spite of filibusters and dirty tricks by the CONs. Vote a straight Democratic ticket from now on, get the CONs out of congress, and watch how much things change for the better. If you go independent you will only be "shooting yourself in the foot".

16. I think many here are getting past this Red Team/Blue Team...
Crap.

Betweenr epublican and democrat recently it's been two sides of the same coin. Look at the people of Vermont. They are able to vote independant and get a guy in the senate that gives a damn about them. If we keep this fight going between only two choices then those two parties will keeep doing what it is now, focus on beating the other team instead of serving the public.

Bullshit.

Try posting on topic, instead of attacking DUers who don't agree with you.

6. "Talking about it" is the critical first step in delivering. Silly.
It's not complex.

Step 1: He proposes plan.
Step 2: Congress adopts plan.
Step 3: Plan delivers.

We're not even a day into "Step 1" and you're already complaining. You want it and you want it nnnnnnnnnoooowwwww... :nopity:

You know, "contractors" for Afghanistan and Iraq? Big fat contracts for KBR and Haliburton and Xe? I mean at least the 66 dead servicemen in Afghanistan alone must have opened up some vacancies? No?

Incidentally, this has nothing whatsoever to do with 'me' as such, as in 'I want it'. It has to do with millions of people who are out of work and one of the worst economies since the Great Depression.

Your smugness is indicative of the problem.

though it clearly was a failure and it probably would have been better to just let the bush tax breaks expire though I got to wonder if those expiring would have even done anything seeing how companies have been exploiting the tax code like GE did to get out of paying any taxes at all.

5. Isn't that swell
Possibility 1 - it's totally lame, already been tried and nobody cares to hear. His own party walks away in disappointed disgust and Obama goes down in history as the president with the longest lame duck period of his presidency.

Possibility 2 - it's totally awesome and everybody goes, "Well, where the hell was this 2 years ago?" but Obama still gets re-elected but he's still sporting the bumps and bruises at his 2nd inauguration.

Possibility 3 (a.k.a. Probability: ALPHA) - After 2 1/2 years he's finally got a decent plan. This might just work but he's blown so much political capital the GOP HoR shuts it down and it stalls. Obama still gets the blame.

The republicans will block it, water it down or turn it on it's head.

And all the while tactically brilliant leftists will engage in the time honored tradition of the circular firing squad.

And I don't even venture outside this one forum very often.

However, if you expect people to put everything thought into every post on every thread, your expectations may be unrealistic.

"dont mention that we would also need to have more progressives in office and especially in congress willing to support the president"

Huh? Ny post said: "DU's left talks about electing more liberal Democrats to ALL offices."

I never said anything about electing more Democrats who will support this President's agenda.

Bit of a misleading, and silly, twist, there.

BTW, the opposite of left is right and the opposite of Nazi is far left, namely Communism. Not too many Communists here, but a lot of lefties.

Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 02:42 PM by defendandprotect
If you doubt that, look at what the Koch Bros/DLC Rahm Emmanuel/Obama team did

and 'CROWED' about ... !!!

Rahm .... crowing about preserving "private health care industry" ... business s/b grateful!

”In a Thursday interview, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel argued that rather than recoiling against Obama, business leaders should be grateful for his support on at least a half-dozen counts: his advocacy of greater international trade and education reform open markets despite union skepticism; his rejection of calls from some quarters to nationalize banks during the financial meltdown; the rescue of the automobile industry; the fact that the overhaul of health care

preserved the private delivery system;

the fact that billions in the stimulus package benefited business with lucrative new contracts, and that financial regulation reform will take away the uncertainty that existed with a broken, pre-crash regulatory apparatus.

47. So, Obama DOES have a magic wand to wave after all!
'Here you are, you low-income, unemployed or on GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE:

1 MilllllLLLLLLLLllion Jobs!

all for you!!!1!!1

There you go, looking a gift horse in the mouth -- so what if they're insufficient to pay your rental, clothing, groceries, medical, basic costs of living, et.al.?

You're way out front, ahead of this *New* Improved (of course!) Third Way field we're creating! Our New, Third Way's American Dream isn't those too-roomy, old-fashioned 'Nuclear Family' houses with their wasteful 1200 sq. ft. interiors, their pastural 50x50 sq.ft. back yards and with their 2-3 bedrooms! --and if done up fancy, some actually have hard wood floors!
But a nice mid-size, even compact vehicles is the home of the future!
***makes note to himself: call them "Environmentally Friendly"

...Hey, we can even call them Green!!'***
*shakes his own hand*

'Oh, and fuck those magic bullets, I've got my wand out.
::::pulls it out, taps it on Presidential Podium, as sparks fly from tip:::
Get it? Wands beat magic bullets by +2D12, so don't you all even TRY!

'Love you all and especially Independents, Moderate Repugs & Wall Streeters, Banksters and WTH, you Baggers too! I'm SURE we can all work together in an uniquely bipartisan way! :woohoo:
Except dyou Lefties, you just suck; jump under my bus: I need traction -- off your face, buttocks, back, doesn't amtter: I. Just. Need. Traction!'

Look: let's just make it easier on all of you: I'm a Democrat, I'm Good. Repuglicans BAD --- that's all you need to know who to vote for!
Only I, the POTUS, can get to like Republicans so much, they've got such GREAT ideas for one, they REALLY care about this country and government (really they do!), and are SO bipartisan that we all work so well together!

But not only that, of course you all know I'm part of their inner group now. I've got 'in' to a lifetime of Bilderbergs & Bohemian Groves, &/etc.

.... sweeet.

My dear fellow Democrats: Don't fuck it up for me.
Remember! The buck's been passed to each of your desks!
