8. Shoot, I forgot about all that.
I take it you live in the area?

Keep us posted.

The news doesn't often care to mention any problems at American nuke plants, just foreign ones. (It can't happen here, you know.)

5. A 5.8 earthquake shuts down power. What if it was a 6 or a 7 or an 8 or even a 9 like japan
Im sure everything is fine and the NRC has everything in control including our best interests.

9. Virginia Nuclear Plant Loses Power After Quake
Source: Wall Street Journal

By TENNILLE TRACY

A nuclear power plant in central Virginia has lost offsite power in the wake of a 5.9 earthquake centered northwest of Richmond, Va., U.S. nuclear officials said.

The North Anna Power Station, which has two nuclear reactors, is now using four diesel generators to maintain cooling operations. The plant automatically shut down in the wake of the earthquake.

"As far as we know, everything is safe," said Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman David McIntyre.

12. Plant is only rated for a 5.9 to 6.1
Considered one of the more vulernable to quakes.

Of course, the quake today was the strongest in VA history.

14. Is Obama still pro-nukes?
We'll see how much he likes nuclear power when his kids are downwind of a disaster.

16. Ruh Roh
I hope those generators keep on working real good!

I hope the earthquake did not damage the reactor, which was at or perhaps a bit above its design limits with a 6.0.

I don't think the government can ignore this, it's 60 miles upwind of DC.

:nuke: :nuke: :hide:

BTW, the wikipedia article says that Lake Anna is an artificial lake, created to provide those nukes with cooling water.
Has anybody checked the dams that make it a lake?
