Elizabeth Warren Gearing Up For Senate Run
Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- One time Obama adviser and longtime consumer protection advocate Elizabeth Warren is moving towards a Senate run, several Democratic sources tell the Huffington Post.

The Massachusetts resident and Harvard Law School professor authored a post for an influential progressive state-based blog on Thursday afternoon pledging that she would not "stop fighting for middle class families." The article prompted a slew of speculation that Warren was poised to take on sitting Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.).

Additional information relayed from Massachusetts Democratic sources suggest she's even more serious about launching a campaign. Warren is currently being assisted by two influential Democratic operatives in the state: Doug Rubin, the chief strategist for Gov. Deval Patrick's two successful statewide runs, and Kyle Sullivan, Patrick's press secretary for his first term. She has also begun making a series of calls to influential activists and party officials in the state, including one to the Massachusetts Democratic Party chairman John Walsh on Thursday, a Massachusetts Democrat tells the Huffington Post.

The current plan is to spend the "next few weeks listening to residents across Massachusetts, calling activists, party leaders and elected officials," the source relays. A final decision is expected after Labor Day.

95. Bull shit
Obama did dump her and not stand up for her.

I don't want her in the Senate, where the Senate rule will mute her voice.

It's second prize, and we never remember those that win second place.

Obama acted the coward once again and wasn't will to fight for the right thing, regardless of the winning potential.

It's pathetic how people acquiese to this crap.

Peace,

100. Besides..
I would hardly consider her possible place in the senate to be a mere consolation prize. In the senate she would actually have more power and it would offer her a faster track to even higher office. A senate run, where people have to get off their asses and vote for her instead of her being appointed to run an agency, would prove how popular she really is. I certainly support her, but would she have enough support to beat Brown?

...and not just because every single liberal and half the Progressive Republicans/Independents in the country know who she is and what she stands for....but because she is one of the (very) few "known" Democrats who possess any semblance of a spine (at least that's the impression that I get from talking to random people about politics and economic matters when the subjects come up).

10. Tough.

She'll probably get a money bomb from Emily's List. (Coakley did.) And she'll probably get help from the DNC and party stars. (Coakley didn't.) That may knock everyone else out of the primary.

But, can she beat Brown? That's all that matters in the end. And Koch bros. will probably do all they can to make sure this very symbolic seat does not get back to Democrats.

Massie may have a better chance at beating Scott Brown. (*ducks*)

Then again, Brown won a special election. This is a Presidential. Bigger turnout. Democrats are unlikely to vote for Brown. So maybe either Massie or Warren will be fine? Lord, I hope so.

66. Maybe, but so would Massie and Khazei, IMO.
Let's face it, even in Massachusetts, which has an incredible number of institutions of "higher learning," Brown did not come from way behind Coakley to win by a huge margin based on his integrity, his towering intellect or his superior debate performance, none of which were anything to write home about.

His win was based on willingness to be a bit shady, a lot of slick packaging, a fair amount of personal appeal, and a big dose of help from the Koch fortune, a big does of help from his Party and his Party's biggest names and his very strong media relationships, courtesy of his wife's many years in local media.

We'll see how the primaries go, but my own primary decision probably will not be easy.

43. It may have been a one time deal
but it came at a bad time. It has become clear that any progressive legislation, or anything approaching it will fail without 60 Senators, the House and the Presidency Democratic, or at least not republican. For a short time between Al Franken taking office, and the passing of Teddy this was the case. Not much could be done at that time, and things have only gotten worse.

I am thrilled that Elizabeth Warren is returning such an important seat to its rightful place. I'd support her in anything but retirement, sorry Liz we need you.

The female version of Al Franken. I just hope this doesn't turn into a big let-down after the election with tempering of votes or any crap like that. You know we're going to have a nasty fight on our hands because all of big pharma and bussiness is going to thrown everything--including the kitchen sink to keep her out. So, we throw our own kitchen sink back at em. Its that simple.

72. Martha got almost zero help from anywhere until she was almost 30 points behind.
She had never run for national office before, only for lawyer related positions, like AG, where she really knew what she was doing and had a long track record.

Clinton campaigned for her in the primary (to my chagrin, since I backed Capuano), but that was about it, until her numbers were way down.

Then, Vicki Kennedy, who had been hurt by Coakley starting up her campaign offices before Ted even died, came and did her best. And Obama finally came up the Sunday night before the election, after saying all along he was not coming at all.

No DNC money or campaign strategist, either. It was as though they wanted her to lose, so they wouldn't have to explain why a Democratic House and 60 in the Democratic Senate Caucus were still yielding such lame legislation.

Yeah, Coakley could have done a lot better, but so could the DNC, Obama and the popular stars of the Party.

77. Seriously. I have never willingly watched a game of any kind in my life.
The few times I've gone to Fenway, I've brought reading material with me.

I knew who Schilling was and knew his sock was in the Baseball Hall of Fame (which, oddly enough, I did visit and enjoy).

78. I wish people outside the state would stand down as to the primary and
jump in for the general.

Last time, outsiders did the opposite--got involved in the primary, then vanished after Coakley got the nomination.

Even without Warren, our primary candidates are good. I'd be happy with Khazei, Massie or Warren.

When the rubber will be hitting the road is whether our nominee can beat the Brown turd, with all he has backing him up.

All we want is an honest and intelligent candidate for Senator. She fits the bill.

It will be interesting to see just how much help she gets from the Washington branch of the Democratic party. Somehow I don't think some of them will be too excited about having her in office.

85. We need to focus on races like this rather than the Presidency
because:

1) They are encouraging rather than depressing.

2) We should not be looking to any one individual to be solving our problems.

3) We can probably have more impact on races like this then we can with the Presidency.

4) The issues and personalities are clearer. Therefore we can send out a clearer message regarding the issues and positions that we support.

5) We are even more likely to help win the Presidency with a reverse coattails effect than we are to win congressional races with the normal coattails effect given the candidates for 2012. (Although if Massachusetts is at risk for its electoral votes in 2012 then we will be in big trouble.)

88. I hope she decides to run
Warren is a very positive and dynamic presence. She can win and she can help stem the Republican tide. With 20+ Democratic Senate seats to defend in 2012, we need to pick up a few GOP-held seats as well. This is great news.

96. Not even consolation prize
We need Warren now to demand economic recourse.

I don't want her in the Senate, where the Senate rule will mute her voice.

It's second prize, and we never remember those that win second place.

Obama acted the coward once again and wasn't will to fight for the right thing, regardless of the winning potential.

It's pathetic how people acquiese to this crap.

Peace,
Tex Shelters

101. I'd love to see her and Bernie Sanders, side by side in the Senate, giving everyone hell!
The time for politely giving in when things get complicated IS SO OVER. You go, Ms. Warren!
