1. One day I'll find out what drawer Baucus keeps the dirty pictures of everyone in...
...and his stranglehold over our party will end.

Things could be worse than Baucus (eg, Nelson), but I really hope this is just a trial balloon.

5. We're fucked.
Kerry's been running around saying that we need to cut entitlements. As he said on Meet the Press on Sunday:

“And the real problem for our country is not the short-term debt. We can deal with that. It’s the long-term debt. It’s the structural debt of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid measured against the demographics of our nation.”

Shit.

6. Baucus on taxes.
From the Wikipedia article:
Baucus voted for the Bush tax cuts in 2001. He has usually voted against repealing portions of that bill and against repealing more recent tax cut bills that benefit upper income taxpayers. In 2008, he voted in favor of permanently repealing the estate tax.

So much for the suspense on where the super cat food committee is headed...

12. Baucus is the neo-Dem traitor that will sell us all out to Wall Street.
And Sen. Kerry has been making noises to that effect. And Sen. Reid is proving his untrustworthyness by appointing Baucus.

19. From the story
Reid’s three picks, to be formally announced on Wednesday, show the Nevada Democrat is serious about forging a bipartisan deal to head off $1.2 trillion in spending cuts required under the debt deal. The super committee was Reid’s contribution to the bipartisan agreement to end the debt limit fight.

Bipartisan. Right. The GOP version of "bipartisan" is "Whatever's mine is mine and whatever's yours is negotiable." The Age of Austerity indeed.

They must be desparate to paint them both as centrists, even though Kerry is actually a liberal but won't stop the haters. Boxer should have replaced Baucus.

40. Be worried about Kerry, very worried
I listened to him last week on one of the Sunday am talk shows and he was definitely advocating changing SSI, recommending "small things, like raising the retirement age a couple of years over the next 10 years?. So, in other words, the fix is in. There is no way this will work out well, since everyone the Repugs nominated and everyone nominated by Senate DINO's are actually for gutting the working class. If Pelosi stands firm and puts committed Dems on the committee, this will deadlock and Medicare will end up being cut. You know damn well the Repugs will never agree to cut defense, they will find some GD way to weasle out of their part of the bargain.

but we shouldn't discount the possibility that Nancy Pelosi will name a sellout as well, so it could be 8-4.

She's the only one I even half way trust of those 3. We will still end up losing big time, as Obama intended. This is just more cover for his historic treachery to the working class and to his own legacy.

39. Showtime
Does it really matter who is on this committee? If you are all that politically astute how could you not recognize a dog and pony show?

Even with Baucus on the committee they are going to wind up with a stalemate and we get the auto-cuts. The show is just for a little drama.
