Fort Worth Star-Telegram

WASHINGTON -- The Bureau of Engraving and Printing's Fort Worth currency plant has become the nation's leading producer of paper bills, eclipsing the aging production site in Washington.

Fort Worth produces 55 percent of the nation's paper money in $1, $5 and $20 bills and will begin producing the colorful new $50 greenback featuring Ulysses S. Grant later in the year, bureau officials said.

Treasury Secretary John Snow will unveil the redesigned $50 bill April 26 at the Western Currency Facility on Blue Mound Road in north Fort Worth.

The plant will also debut its visitors center, which will offer tours. City leaders say they will use the tours to promote the site, which will be the only place in the nation outside the capital where the public can watch bills roll off the presses.
