Bronx Catholic school principal Frank Borzellieri fired over ties to white supremacist group
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 11:37 AM by NoGOPZone
Source: New York Daily News

The principal of a Bronx Catholic school was fired Tuesday after the Daily News exposed his ties to a white supremacist group and his controversial writings.

"Frank Borzellieri has been relieved of his position as principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School," said Joe Zwilling, spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York.

"This decision was reached following a thorough internal review of his opinions and beliefs as expressed in his books and columns, and a discussion with Mr. Borzellieri himself."

The 48-year-old, who was named principal at the mostly black and Latino school two years ago, had pushed in the past to ban a biography of martyred civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King.

3. Someone should remind this clown that a few short decades ago
no self-respecting white supremacist group would allow an Italian-American Catholic to sully its snowy whiteness. What a shithead.

12. and in fact
As you say,the KKK was as much anti-catholic as it was racist.Apt description although that's really one of the areas where American English falls a bit short.

13. In my personal experience, a lot of Americans don't really grasp
the difference between the various forms of Christianity out there. Fifty years ago, you wouldn't dare confuse a Catholic with a Protestant. Now the lines are blurred. Blurred lines are generally a good thing, but when people have no grasp of history... they're doomed to be asshats, basically.

4. One brave person stood up, literally. One.
"Word of Borzellieri's racist ties caused a ruckus at the parish's Sunday Mass, where one parishioner stood to demand the principal's ouster."

The Daily News published that story and is now taking credit for the ouster, but, IMO, it was the man who stood up during Mass and demanded the bigot's departure who deserves the credit.

6. I don't think that statement in and of itself
"where one parishioner stood to demand the principal's ouster..."

I don't think that statement in and of itself denies the possibility that anyone else stood up, merely that one who stood indicated a demand.

11. Bronx man interrupts church Mass to rip 'racist' principal, gets kicked out and arrested
BY Nicholas Rizzi, Reuven Blau and Bill Hutchinson
DAILY NEWS WRITERS

... Cops were called to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Fordham after a church-goer interrupted the service to call for the removal of Frank Borzellieri as principal of the parish school.

"I wanted them to feel my sense of outrage that he was brought into the community to teach," said Juan Varela, 54, who was arrested yesterday on disorderly conduct and weapons possession charges and spent seven hours in police custody.

Varela, who is Catholic but lives in Queens, said he sat in a pew during the 10 a.m. Mass. At one point he stood up, walked to the altar, faced parishioners and began railing against Borzellieri.

"This church hired a racist. This church does not like Hispanics and blacks," one police source quoted Varela as saying ...
