Ed Koch backs Republican in Weiner's old district
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 05:42 PM by Ken Burch
Source: CNN

(CNN) - As the special election to replace former Rep. Anthony Weiner heats up in Brooklyn and Queens, the Republican candidate, Bob Turner, received a ringing endorsement Monday from one of the Empire State's top Democrats.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch announced his support Monday for Turner amid hopes that the special election in the 9th congressional district, a strongly Jewish area, will become a referendum on President Barack Obama's policies on Israel.

In his anger over the president's May Mideast speech, which recommended that a peace solution include a return to Israel's pre-1967 borders with land swaps, Koch said in a statement Monday that Obama is "willing to throw under the bus" and end relations with the state.

More reasons to despise Ed Koch. The old bastard is not only backing another Republican(his endorsements helped Reagan carry New York twice, and helped keep Al D'Amato in the Senate) but he's also lying(nothing in Obama's Israel/Palestine speech equated to ending diplomatic relations with Israel).

2. Which is what he was in office for 12 years, also. Not just a defender but the genuine article...
Right wing, anyway. Neocon wasn't as prominent a category back then.

7. Perhaps he is a Bloomberg Republican....
You know, a Democrat.

One of the reasons Bloomberg became an R, is because there weren't enough of them to fill the ballot.

19. I would have to agree. However, my point relates to the possibility
that Turner, may have entered the race as an R, to avoid facing a D until the actual election.

10. ed koch is an irrelevant POS which keeps floating to the surface at odd intervals,
stinking up the discourse - just to distract his own ego, from his own uselessness, both during his failed terms as mayor of NYC, as well as thereafter.

17. Ed Koch supported W over John Kerry, because he agreed with Bush's actions in
Iraq and thought he was better for Israel. The NYC area Jewish population voted overwhelmingly for Kerry. Koch attacked Carter incessantly. Koch has long ago lost any influence he had.
