House Republicans Say 9/11 Panel Playing Politics
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two leading congressional Republicans on Friday accused the commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks of descending into partisan finger-pointing instead of examining problems that allowed the deadly hijackings.

"Partisan mudslinging, circus-atmosphere pyrotechnics, and gotcha-style questioning do not get us closer to the truth. They serve as dangerous distractions from the global war on terror," House of Representatives' Majority leader Tom DeLay said in a letter to the commission.

DeLay of Texas and Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, a member of the House Republican leadership, said the commission has lost credibility, with some members more focused on stating opinions than getting information.

They made their charges in separate letters after the Republican Bush administration came under tough questioning in hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday for what some commission members called a complete intelligence failure ahead of the attacks that killed about 3,000 people.

1. "Gotcha style questioning"??
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 03:40 PM by shpongled
If you've been had, you've been had?

AKA proven guilty?

An admission of guilt in disguise.

Never an ounce of time given for the taking of responsibility. They are "focused" on the "war".. please don't distract them..

A waterfall of lies.

Questions are NEVER dangerous. However, avoiding and diverting questions IS dangerous.

Go to hell Delay. You are the DANGEROUS one.

3. Delay is spouting about credibiltiy?? guffaw!
but lord, what are they worried about. the bush admin is slightly tainted by this 'investigation.' but it is a white wash. The pukes shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth... or whatever the idiom is.

4. TOM DELAY is accusing someone of playing politics?
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 03:38 PM by rocknation
That's like Hugh Hefner calling someone a pimp! He'd best tend to his own problems--isn't he being investigated himself?

6. Credibility? Tom deLay?
Let's see...Frist claimed Clarke committed perjury, but then Rice pretty much confirmed everything Clarke said AND committed perjury herself.

Ashcroft lied his ass off. The document the White House was hiding turned out to say Clinton tried to kill Bin Laden, contradicting two and a half years of the GOP's claims.

And pResident Turd is hiding from the commission and afraid to testify by himself...

I don't think it's the Commission that's lost credibility.

7. bipartisan committee, presidential appointees
if anything, the composition of the committee is slanted in favor of the administration. the staff is run by a republican zealot picked by the administration. the chairman was picked by the administration. the terms and conditions of the questioning were largely determined by the administration.

the allegation of partisanship is, itself, transparantely partisan.
