Richmond ex-cops indicted in scouts scandal (provided teens guns and private security job)
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

(07-21) 19:58 PDT RICHMOND --

Two former Richmond police officers were indicted Thursday on charges that they intimidated two young men from the department's scout program after illegally arming them and sending them to work for a private security outfit in crime-plagued neighborhoods.

When the scouts turned on the officers, federal prosecutors said, the officers hired a private investigator to conduct an elaborate sting on the young men - with beautiful women seeking to use sexual gambits to get them arrested and jailed.

Danny Harris, 31, of Pinole and Ray Thomas, 34, of Fairfield were each indicted by a federal grand jury in Oakland on two charges of conspiracy for allegedly trying to prevent the volunteer Explorer Scouts from telling law enforcement that Harris had illegally bought them guns.

Harris, the onetime leader of the scout program, was also charged with making false statements while buying three Glock semiautomatic pistols from a San Jose police supply store.

1. You can't make this crap up!! It reads like a horrible movie script
with, say, Nicholas Cage as one of the bad cops (he's a bit old, but allowing for Hollywood license and his skill at playing sour/evil types), and some young rising 20-something stars as the young lads being forced to do the bidding of the bad cops.

2. It's actually really sad.
When the cops found out these two kids had spoken to FBI they conspired to set the young men up. They hired a PI to get a hooker
to entrap them with drugs and alcohol. They hooker was supposed to convince the young men to show up with their guns and then they
would get busted.

One of the young men received a tip-off and he notified FBI.

One of the officer's is also involved with manufacturing evidence in other cases and has separate charges for that.

3. But the "bad guys" get it in the end--which is why it works as a film.
And of course, the hooker--there has to be a hooker or 2 in an action/corrupt cop film.
