-A U.S. drone was shot down while flying over a nuclear facility in Iran, according to reports in the Iranian media.

Iran's Fars news agency reported that lawmaker Ali Aqazadeh Dafsari, a member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, had confirmed the unmanned spy plane was flying near the Fordo nuclear enrichment plant in Qom province when it was brought down by Revolutionary Guard soldiers.

It did not say when the alleged incident happened.

Dafsari told Fars that the drone was trying to gather information about the nuclear facility for the CIA.

We'll just provide the air space and let the Israelis in.

6. Standby and watch the warhawks twist this into "offensive military action by the Iranians"
I can see the statements from those who would like to see us in a war with Iran. "unarmed drone on peaceful mission fired on by trigger happy Iranian troops" or something to that effect.

The Military Industrial Complex is intent on keeping the gravy train running, and war in Iran is the next step in maintaining those high dollar defense contracts.

8. k/r I'm seeing more language in thenews like,"Readiness for Iran", etc
When their deficit reduction austerity plan slips into full scale world wide depression.. they will take us to war to distract attention from the ecoonomy.

It worked in 2001.. so why not again.

11. Not every centrist is like Bush. I think you have a short memory if you think
Obama is anything like Bush.

21. You're right.
Obama has gone after more whistle-blowers than all previous presidents combined.

Not like bush at all.

7. How did soldiers shoot this down when they have the ability
to fly to 60000 ft when spying?

24. Depends on the drone and the soldiers weapons.
Some drones don't have a very high ceiling and Iran has SAMs.

9. This is called "an act of war" and it is a violation of international law. Who's the guilty person?
The buck stops with President Barack Obama!

10. Sorry to throw a wrench into the Obama-bashing, but
This has been pretty much standard practice for a while. Other countries send spy planes across borders too. Even DU's dream President that many speak of on here would be doing this. It's how we gather intelligence.

13. Standard Practice? Yeah I suppose you are right.
It was also standard practice for Bonnie and Clyde to rob banks. Legal? No. Neither is invading a countries air space.

14. Psst, keep this quiet...
Countries spy on each other. The US spies on Russia, China, Great Britain, France, Iran and another 100 or so. China spies on us and another 100 or so as does Russia, Great Britain and France. Iran not so much. Maybe 50 or so.

It's called the real world. That's the way it works. I've got no problem with spying on other countries.

20. Psst, keep this quiet too.
I bet if Iran, Russia, or China were flying drones over New York City or Atlanta you would have a problem with it.

My problem is I don't see a difference.

how many times in the past 10 years have we heard unsubstantiated BS from Iran? Are you the least bit curious why they have no wreckage?
