Blasts in Iraq's Kufa, Militias Rush to Fight

KUFA, Iraq (Reuters) - Five people were killed in clashes between an Iraqi Shi'ite militia and foreign troops near Kufa on Friday, a doctor said, and witnesses heard loud blasts and saw militiamen running to fight on the town's outskirts.

Seif al-Din Youssef, a doctor at the Central Euphrates Hospital, said there were 20 wounded, including three women and several civilians.

"Most of the injured are seriously wounded," Youssef said, his clothes spattered with blood after treating them.

"They have bullet wounds to the chest and limbs, or injuries caused by mortar blasts."
