Conrad Black going back to prison
Source: Globe & Mail

Conrad Black is going back to prison.

Judge Amy St. Eve on Friday sentenced Lord Black to a total of 42 months. Having already served 29 months, he must now go back to jail for about one more year.

His wife, Barbara Amiel Black collapsed in her seat after the judge read the sentence. She lay on the bench for some time before being helped out of the court room by two men. She struggled to stand upright as she walked out and was clearly upset.

Lord Black has been out of prison for roughly a year while pursuing various appeals of his criminal convictions for fraud and obstruction of justice. Friday's hearing marked the final chapter in what has been a prolonged and precedent-setting case that stretched all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and fundamentally changed U.S. fraud laws.

This makes me happy. Black is a pompous scumbag. Barbara Amiel is a drama queen. Probably rehearsed the fainting several times.

He accepted a peerage in the House of Lords. But he give up his Canadian citizenship when the Canadian govt. refused to let him become a Lord.

7. Black demanded special treatment & gathered an entourage of inmates who acted like servants for him
In one of the affidavits, a unit manager at the Coleman complex says Lord Black demanded special treatment and gathered an entourage of inmates who acted like servants for him.

“Those inmates cooked for Black, cleaned for him, mopped his floor, ironed his clothes and other similar tasks. That is not at all frequent at Coleman,” Tammy Padgett said in the document.

She added that Lord Black’s assigned case manager reported that he demanded to be called Lord Black the day he was released on bond last summer, awaiting the outcome of an appeal.

“Black told words to the effect of ‘I believe I should be addressed as Lord Black from this point forward,’” she said.

In another document, Carrie De La Garza, an education specialist who supervised Lord Black as a tutor, said he was a haughty and uninterested mentor.

“He projected the attitude that he was better than others in the class, both faculty and students. A lot of the inmates looked up to him, and there were some who saluted him each day in class,” she said in the sworn testimony.

8. Does he have to make restitution?
