Kerry and McCain Introduce Libya Resolution
Source: New York Times

In an effort aimed at countering a House Republican plan to defund American military operations in Libya, Senators John Kerry, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and a Democrat, and John McCain, a Republican, announced the introduction of a joint resolution on Tuesday authorizing the limited use of United States Armed Forces in Libya.

Under the resolution, which could be voted on as early as this week, the president is authorized to continue the limited use of the United States Armed Forces in Libya, in support of United States national security policy interests for one year after passage of the resolution.

The bipartisan legislation, however, does not support deploying, establishing or maintaining the presence of units and members of the United States Armed Forces on the ground in Libya unless the purpose of the presence is limited to the immediate personal defense of United States government officials.

On the Senate floor Tuesday morning, Mr. Kerry of Massachusetts said that intervention in Libya sent a signal to its leaders that they cannot automatically assume they can resort to large-scale violence to put down legitimate demands for reform without consequences.

2. Why would they give Obama legitimacy here? This is a pile of bullshit
Edited on Tue Jun-21-11 03:01 PM by no limit
If they need to come up with a resolution to authorize what Obama is doing then that means what Obama is currently doing is illegal. Obama didn't ask for this resolution, why are they giving it to him?

4. NATO - without US backing there would be no NATO support for rebels.
This isn't just cover for Obama, but, for UN and NATO, too.

Headed to the beach? Heads up for an invasion force

By Larry Shaughnessy, CNN
June 19, 2011 12:05 p.m. EDT

Washington (CNN) -- It's mid-June, a perfect time to visit the beach to watch porpoises play in the surf or seagulls strut the sand -- or you could watch a formation of Marine Corps warplanes darting over the shore at hundreds of miles per hour.

But don't worry -- the United States hasn't declared war on your family's beach house. It's just part of a major Marine Corps exercise called Exercise Mailed Fist (translation: armored fist).

The exercise is designed to test the capability of every type of Marine Corps aircraft, including MV-22 Ospreys and F/A 18 Hornets, as well as some Navy ships and Air Force planes.

The drill will stretch from Quantico Marine Base in northern Virginia to the Navy's Pinecastle Bombing Range in Florida.

7. Resolution to kill more children.
McCain and Kerry, both veterans of the criminal war against Vietnam, would know better if they were decent.

9. Kerry's behind the language limiting the involvement - NO ground troops.
Imagine what the resolution would allow if drafted only by McCain and Lieberman.

10. We have no business in Libya. Or anywhere else.
It's hard for me to take efforts like this seriously, because it's appalling to me that we ever even considered getting militarily involved in any way here.
