LulzSec and Anonymous team up, plan digital destruction
Source: CS Monitor

...Over the weekend, LulzSec, a relatively new group of Internet pranksters, announced it would join Anonymous – a much more established, if still loosely affiliated, organization of hackers – to wage war on government sites, under the auspices of an initiative called "Operation Anti-Security."
...

"Top priority is to steal and leak any classified government information, including email spools and documentation," LulzSec have announced. "Prime targets are banks and other high-ranking establishments. If they try to censor our progress, we will obliterate the censor with cannonfire anointed with lizard blood." Because regular cannonfire would obviously not suffice.
...
LulzSec – short for Lulz Security – already has a string of successful hacks under its belt, including the recent breach of the US Senate site, which LulzSec spokespeople said was done, "just for kicks." Before that, there was "Sownage" – an ongoing war against Sony – and attacks on the Websites of PBS and Fox. (In the latter case, LulzSec exposed a database of "X-Factor" contestants.)

1. I wish they'd quit *talking* about taking on the banks, and get on with it
We need those fuckers to fall - and fast...

2. The revolution will not be televised
It will be online.

As long as they're embarrassing bureaucrats, it's a good thing. They start fucking around with things like the power grid, it's going to get nasty.

Sorry but regarding the
"long as they're embarrassing bureaucrats" the bureaucrats dont need any help there as they do a good enough job doing that on their own :)

On a more serious note I hope the group is careful on what it is they do because if it disrupts the general public the general public who might then be more inclined to turn them in to law enforcement.

only up to the point at which your account information is posted online, or your balance disappears, or you can't access your money because the ATM network has crashed.

I have the feeling that cyberanarchists couldn't care less if thousands of customers get hurt in the process of inflicting damage on the corrupt institutions.

or Cash.

I've done both, I prefer cash, but it gets annoying in larger quantities.

22. Smart grid
The grid's computers have to be able to communicate to regulate power distribution.

This is done so you don't have to deal with rolling blackouts or brownouts.

6. LulzSec and Anonymous are good things but...
It would be easier to pretend these security holes don't exist but we'd be lying to ourselves. Corporations don't like spending on security any more than they like spending on workers.

But the people behind these attacks are opening themselves up to serious criminal charges and I wonder if many of them are not old enough to fully understand the potential consequences.

9. There is night footage of the Spanish protests:
A montage is projected on a government building. The Anonymous symbol is shown. The crowd cheers.

I suspect a good deal of public likes Anonymous, even if it's just for the Robin Hood narrative.

If they touch a bank, they might as well put their affairs in order and wait on the curb for the authorities.

31. LOL, just proxy through an alibi point.
Banks get attacked all the time, and you know what? It's damned near impossible to convict for an attack, because the ones with even minor levels of knowledge relay through multiple machines and jurisdictions, and erase the whole evidence trail when they're done. All the bank winds up with is evidence that an 87 year old nun in Brazil has a computer virus (etc.).

e-Crime unit arrest man

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU) have arrested a 19-year-old man in a pre-planned intelligence-led operation.

The arrest follows an investigation into network intrusions and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group.

They have no evidence of any crime. They're trying to sweat out any information he has, but these groups work in such a way as to never share real identities.

Edited on Tue Jun-21-11 07:10 AM by Autumn Colors
So for the second day in a row, I'm without being able to access my business email. I'm a medical transcriptionist who's business is ALREADY hanging by a thread. I cannot afford to lose my last remaining clients.

If this is one of THEIR attacks, I am NOT amused.

I'd suggest using a local ISP instead.

If TIA certain unnamed state security organisations wanted to perform
a number of genuinely destructive false-flag operations in order to "justify"
even greater restrictions on freedom, being able to publicise this "war on
government sites ... banks and other high-ranking establishments" in this way
would be quite convenient wouldn't it?
