Drunk State Senator Steals Car, Falls Asleep In Backseat: Cops
Source: KTLA/PIX11

An Idaho State Senator was arrested Sunday after stealing a car and driving under the influence.

John McGee, who is the youngest Republican-elected official in the Senate at the age of 38, McGee had a few drinks at a golf club outside of Boise. After leaving the golf club, he stole a Ford Excursion from a home he did not know. He then tried to back the car with its cargo trailer into a neighbor's yard attracting the attention of the neighbor, Joe Carleton.

The Republican chairman did not know the owner of the vehicle he stole nor why he was in the area, reported Lt. Kody Aldrich.

-------

Carleton tried to wake the senator up who in turn responded that "he was looking for the promised land."

2. not even Republicans are this stupid
I find this hard to believe, not even Republicans are this stupid. Maybe a diabetic reaction or something? If I'm wrong, I am humble enough to admit that Republicans are stupider than I can imagine.

That's just the way I roll . . .

5. Does the "great confidence in the criminal justice system" mean
he thinks he'll get away with it? Would it mean the same for if someone else was in his position?

"He is embarrassed by this matter. He has never been in this situation before, but he has great confidence in the criminal justice system," said attorney Scott McKay

11. Nah, not that. He's a Repuker, remember?
- He'd just have his "come to Jesus" moment, crying and sniffing back snot in front of the cameras with his wife standing ashamedly but with head held high by his side (with the aid of some bodacious pharmaceuticals). To be later trucked-off to a religious rehab retreat for "the cure."

10. State Senator?!? Bah! Next stop: National Senator!!!
If a Dem so much as sneezes without apologizing beforehand, he's guilty of committing genocide and pedophilia.

If a Rep commits genocide or pedophilia, why, that's A-Okay! Same goes for drunk driving or grand-theft-auto...

Can't wait to see you in the National Senate in 2012, McGee!!!

Sounds like to me he would be the best candidate compared to who we have running now.

13. Republicans haven't felt the need to be circumspect in their lives for years,
they've been running amuck, while still, as complete liars and poseurs, cling to their claims of moral superiority, piety. Enough to make a maggot gag.

Give the Privileged little Angel his
obligatory slap on the wrist and move
on. Everyone knows his Lot are above
the Law. Joe-6-Pack would have racked
up a bundle of nice little Fines and
Charges. This Corporate creature should
be thrown out of his Senate Seat.

19.  this is a WEIRD story - and many papers seem to be trying to make sense of it
Edited on Tue Jun-21-11 11:17 AM by karynnj

Carleton woke up around 3 a.m. Sunday to find a truck and 20-foot travel trailer belonging to his neighbors jack-knifed in his back driveway.

Apparently the driver, who deputies say was Senator John McGee, was trying to turn the rig around. Carleton's sons then said the driver ran around the house and up and down the gravel road. Carleton found him in the back seat.

"He said he was looking for the promised land," Carleton said. "He didn't know where he was at. He was dazed and confused. He was in another world."

Carleton called police.

Here is a newer one. Here, it says he claimed he was the "passenger". His people argue medical condition and others suggest he could have been slipped something. Not to mention, his spokesperson is in complete denial on his being drunk - arguing he was not belligerent. This in spite of multiple positive drunk tests, the Senator saying he had been drinking and a long list in the police report of things that all support drinking.

Carleton said McGee unlocked the car door for the homeowner and said McGee emphasized that he was in the backseat, not the driver’s seat. An officer on the scene also stated in a report that McGee claimed he was just a passenger in the vehicle.

Carleton said McGee was barefoot and had several scrapes and cuts on his legs and a bleeding gash on his knee. The senator was wearing shorts, a polo shirt and hat.

“He was cut up. He was dirty. It looked like he had been in a fight,” Carleton said.

McGee told officers he was headed to Jackpot, Nev. Carleton said McGee said he was “in the promised land.” When Carleton’s wife stood in the window wearing a white robe, McGee told Carleton she was an angel.

His statement:

(Sen. McGee) is embarrassed by this matter. He has never been in this situation before but he has great confidence in the criminal justice system. With the love and support of his family, he will handle this matter responsibly,” McKay said in the statement.
