Silicon Valley jobless rate falls in May as tech employers hire

Silicon Valley tech employers added jobs in May, and the unemployment rate in the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara metro area fell to 9.9 percent, the California Employment Development Department reported today.

It was the first time since February 2009 that the region's jobless rate was below 10 percent.

By contrast, the unemployment rate was 10.1 percent in April and 11.1 percent in May 2010.

Employers in Santa Clara County -- the hub of Silicon Valley's tech industry -- and mostly agricultural San Benito County added 2,100 jobs last month, with gains in professional and business services, including computer systems design; computer and electronics manufacturing; information; and financial activities.

3. Social Networking
Everyone's scrambling to build the next big social networking thing.

IT reminds me of the music industry. A few bands come along and have a couple of cross over hits, and then the entire industry tries to duplicate the sound or offer some variation.
