(Calif.) Senate passes bill allowing same-day registration
Source: Associated Press

Californians would be able to register and vote on the same day at county election offices under a bill passed by the state Senate.

Lawmakers passed SB641 by Democratic Sen. Ron Calderon of Monterey Park. The bill would allow eligible citizens to register and vote on election day at county election offices, but not at polling places.

... Republican Sen. Doug LaMalfa of Willows opposed the proposal because he says people already have plenty of time to register. Currently, voters can register up to 15 days before an election.

4. That bucks the trend in the rest of the nation
And it is damn refreshing. Everyone should be automatically registered to vote.

5. And in Maine, the GOP Legislature is about to kill it
We've had same day registration since the 70s, I believe. Never had a problem. But the Republicans are trying to do anything they can to throw roadblocks in the path of voting.
