Ex-IMF chief Strauss-Kahn released from New York jail

(Reuters) - Former IMF chief Dominic Strauss-Khan was released from New York's Rikers Island jail shortly before 4 p.m. ET on Friday, a law enforcement official said.

The French politician, who is facing charges of an alleged sexual assault on a New York hotel maid, was released into the custody of a New York security firm with close ties to local prosecutors, the official said.

He originally was expected to be taken under guard to an apartment on New York's Upper East Side. But after the address leaked and the building was besieged by media, the official said, it was possible he might be moved to a "safe house" in downtown Manhattan.

The security firm the court approved to guard Strauss-Kahn as part of his bail arrangement is not obliged to keep police informed of Strauss-Kahn's location, the official said.

3. Here today, gone tomorrow.
Corporate jet, I imagine. On a business trip to Paris, no doubt, all full of executives for a "meeting" in that city. What's one more passenger, more or less.

Now, who does lots of business in France, I wonder...

Corporate execs don't have to do all that passport business. They just get whisked through privately. Once in France, he needn't show his Passport. And there it is.

6. Wrong
A judge set bail at $1 million Thursday, as long as Strauss-Kahn agreed to wear an electronic monitoring device, surrendered all his passports to the government, and hired armed guards to make sure he does not violate his house arrest.

9. Not a mention of the Security Firm's name...
Hmmm... Curiouser and curiouser... and what would happen to them if the scoundrel should affect an escape... I don't think an "Oops' would suffice...
