No more exploring: Tim Pawlenty will announce candidacy Monday
Source: Los Angeles Times

By Michael A. Memoli

May 20, 2011, 8:11 a.m.
Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) plans to formally announce his candidacy for president in Iowa on Monday, a campaign aide confirmed Friday.

The announcement will come during a town hall meeting in the leadoff caucuses state. His wife will introduce him at event, at the State of Iowa Historical Building.

In the eyes of the Federal Election Commission, Pawlenty is already a full-fledged candidate. But he has maintained he is still in an exploratory phase, waiting until the pace of the campaign picked up before making a showier splash.

In a campaign of tortoises, marked so far as much by who is out as who is in, Pawlenty has been something of a hare. He was among the first to announce the formation of an exploratory committee, doing so with a slick YouTube video on his Facebook page in March. He has been traveling regularly to early nominating states for more than a year, making early contact with key activists.

4. I actually disagree
He will probably win the Republican nomination and I think while Obama should win that he is the biggest threat. Minn is a state Obama cant afford to lose.

7. TPaw's chances are limited
Our state booted out his party form the Gov office and gave the GOP control of the house and Senate. They have forced their social agenda on the citizens while ignoring the Jobs Jobs Jobs platform they ran on. With redistricting next year, both houses are up for a vote. That is why the GOP is pushing for a marriage amendment and voter ID amendment to drive their base to the polls.

MeThinks it will backfire on them

5. The Michelle Bachmann Effect
Bachmann has forced Pawlenty's hand as he couldn't let her be the first from neighboring Minnesota to announce in Iowa. If she is able to do this Pawlenty can be manipulated in other ways as well.

6. no kidding..big er um surprise?
Does it really matter when they've stated that none of the care about the country? It's only about getting Obama out? Reducing democracy to only a page on a history book? The more they attack Obama the more the country supports him. This was the problem they had with Clinton. I don't know what it will take for them to realize the majority want good government..not a corporate takeover.

11. If he gets the nom (highly doubtful) I am going to quit my job and follow him around
with a big sign using the "W" in his name with a graphic of the 35W bridge collapsing. Because that was HIS fucking fault. He slashed MNDOT's budget for years, and he and his evil minion Carol Molnau laughed about it. He wasn't laughing the day the bridge collapsed. He looked as scared as the little weasel he is, because he KNEW he had just murdered 13 people.

14. Another Huckabee look alike enters the field. Is he the governor who failed
to repair the infrastructure of his state and a tragedy occurred when a major bridge collapsed? If so, we Dems should be able to make a lot of that. What kind of leadership is that, to ignore a dangerous bridge?

15. Tim Pawlenty to formally launch White House campaign
Source: USA TODAY

Republican Tim Pawlenty is going to make it official and formally jump into the 2012 race for president on Monday, a Pawlenty aide said.

The aide, who asked for anonymity so as not to pre-empt Pawlenty's announcement, said the former Minnesota governor will launch his candidacy at a town hall in Des Moines and then travel to the Florida and Washington, D.C.

Pawlenty, 50, in March became the first major GOP candidate to launch a presidential exploratory committee -- the first step that allowed him to raise money for the bid.

He held his first major fundraiser this week in Minneapolis, and has been securing major financial backers such as Texas developers Bob Perry and Ray Washburne. Perry was behind the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth group, which criticized Democrat John Kerry's Vietnam War record in the 2004 campaign, and Washburne was a big fundraiser for George W. Bush.

16. If Tim Pawlenty makes an announcement and nobody hears it
has he really made an announcement?

Even the beltway pundits who have recently had orgasms over such stellar candidates as trump and newt, don't seem to be very excited over this dude.

He may actually get the nomination because there really is nobody else even remotely sane in the running.
