3 dead after shooting at San Jose State University
Source: cnn

Three people are dead after a shooting in a campus parking garage at San Jose State University, spokeswoman Pat Lopes Harris said Wednesday.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday on the California campus. Harris said university police responded to a report of a possible shooting and found two people dead on the fifth floor of the garage. A third person was taken to a hospital but died upon arrival, Harris said.

11. There was another double homicide a few blocks away from here
over the weekend. Two guys were thrown out of a garage party and they came back with guns, we think. No apprehensions yet. Not looking good for San Jose right now.

4. We can approach their idea of an ideal state: the Philippines
Where everybody goes out and about armed. College kiddies, too!

5. More guns is not always the solution
Sometimes, guns or not, these sorts of things will happen. In this case the presence of other armed people might have made some difference, or not, we will never know. What we do know is that it almost certainly would not have made things worse. In any case there is NOTHING we can do to keep madmen from arming themselves with deadly weapons, we cannot even keep deadly weapons out of prisons, so that's not an option. The only choice is whether or not the lunatics will be the only one's able to defend themselves.

And that, my friend, is reality. You don't have to like it.

22. You "know" that if there had been more armed people there it wouldn't
Edited on Wed May-11-11 10:32 PM by defendandprotect
have made things worse?

What . . . do you have a crystal ball?

More guns = safety, eh?

Sounds like more "up" is "down" and newspeak -- i.e., "war is peace" -- !!

Perhaps the three who are now dead thought guns were also "reality" -- ????

18. If you don't want a gun don't carry a gun.
Your prejudices towards firearms won't keep me from defending myself.

20. That's like saying, "If you don't want to use a Swiss Bank account, don't open one!" --
We are all threatened by this decades long campaign by the rightwing/GOP/NRA

to create a violent America --

"Prejudiced towards firearms" --- ???

Proud to be prejudiced against weapons of violence -- !!!

12. Guess where I just had breakfast this morning?
Right down the street from there.

This is especially disturbing because San Jose has for years enjoyed a reputation as one of the safest large cities in America. Until recently it was the safest; it is now down to 4th. But with talk of police layoffs (unless the union accepts the mayor's cramdfowns, of course), the trend can only be downward... :scared:

13. A friend of mine was in the garage 10 mins before the shooting!
Edited on Wed May-11-11 02:30 PM by Vehl
She says that if she had decided to stop by Quickly and decided to grab a Taro milk tea as she sometimes does, before going to the garage, she would had been in the garage at the same time as the shooting! Lol I guess its good to let go of the craving for some stuff once in a while.

last year a student committed suicide by jumping off the Garage's top floor.
Real sad :(

17. But I thought it was a gun free zone.
Gee it is like those laws in reality aren't going to discourage anyone intent of committing a massacre and just serve to strip people of the ability to defend themselves.

23. update: victims ID'd, 54-year-old man shot 2 students incl his 25-y.o. wife
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/05/12/BA7H1JFC2Q.DTL

The wife, 25-year-old Marcory Tarlit Caliguiran, and her companion Thomas Kyle Williams, 26, were both honors business students at the university, authorities said. They would have graduated this month with degrees in accounting.

The killer, Napoleon Lavarias Caliguiran, shot himself after fatally shooting his wife and Williams as the two sat in the Caliguirans' Mercedes-Benz at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on the fifth floor of the garage at South 10th and East San Fernando streets, officials said.

Napoleon Caliguiran, who was not a student at the university, was found gravely wounded a short distance away, a handgun by his side. He died at a hospital.
