Thousands Gather At Union Square To Voice Concerns Against Wars
Source: CBS New York

One woman had tears in her eyes as she talked about her nephews who are in the military and how she believed she may never see them again. Another man drove more than nine hours from Ohio so that his voice could be heard.
Tom Murphy from Brooklyn said instead of shutting down the government, they need to shut down the wars.

“It’s costing $100 million a day. In the meantime, we are being told that there is no money for badly needed social programs. We don’t want war. We want more jobs,” Murphy said.

Carol Kennedy came from Pennsylvania and said that the killing of innocent people needs to stop.

2. We need to do this en masse
Every able person needs to converge on DC and fill the capitol buildins - POUR thru the entry-ways to the White House and the Pentagon and FORCE them to hear us. Right now, it's only money that turns heads there.

10. That would be heartening for the participants
but the folks we need to influence - you know - the ones who supposedly represent us???? We'd be lucky if they even heard about it after the fact. We need an EVENT in DC that NOBODY can ignore!

13. Or both. Not everyone can get to D.C. If folks show up across the country, it can't be ignored,

either.

Btw, are we having a 100% bullshit conversation, or will you actually work on organizing and publicizing the D.C. demonstration you're suggesting--blocs of hotel rooms, mall permits, porta potties, water, the whole 9? I'm actually willing to work on organizing my town.

I it's all only bullshit, though, hell, let's go global, intergalactic, even.

15. I have NONE of the organization skills
to even begin to start such a show. I WAS at a busy intersection last Monday - carrying a sign and hootin' 'n hollerin' regarding the national assualt on organized labor. There were maybe 200 folks total. This is in a DEEP RED section of a decidedly blue state, BTW. The wife and I were both there because we truly understand history (she teaches it) and have been union members for most of our working lives. That's the best I could do, and afford to do.
For our district - we have a die-hard GOP doofus in DC. He has run un-challenged for several terms now ("un-challenged" if you discount his own shortcomings, that is). You've heard of "Big Pharma"? Well, this is Big Farm-a territory. Democrats needn't bother to ask things of their rep. I say this because I'm confident that any demonstrations we might do here would be viewed with contempt. I've had personal responses from our rep where he judged my missives as "spam". Hell, he was Tea Party before the title was phrased.

But to get back to your "bullshit conversation" question - am I gonna hold up the banner at the head of the charge? No. I'm not capable physically or intellectually. But My SPIRIT is there.

5. Ya think
corporate media are going to cover this? Nope, it's not the tea brats.

Even if it was well over 100,000, the media would say two words and go back to bashing the Prez and goving praise to gopers.

6. What?
Creating jobs and fighting wars goes hand in hand, thats ules you do not want to fight for freedom. Just kidding, the wars need to end, this country is in financial position to finance these wars. Lets hope the anti war liberal rise again as they did in 2004

11. Thousands...???
Where are the hundreds of thousands of a few years ago? Do we have to rely on Ron Paul to challenge this administration's highly questionable actions in Libya?

Some questions I would like answered are:

1. Why Libya and not the Congo? Oil? Afraid of being shown up by Sarkozy?
2. What is the game plan and the endgame? What is success?
3. Do we know who the hell is in the opposition to K-Daffy? Will we all be playing the Who soon?

I am ready to support the administration if they can convince me that they have thought this out clearly.

And now for some clarity.........(crickets)

16. Libya was a big point at the rally, as was Palestine, and the connections between the economy and
war.

In fact, people had signs noting that the cost of a cruise missile in Libya was the same as the cost for ten teachers in New York, and many signs denounced the the "assault on Unions" as part of the general erosion of civil liberties, which also included attacks on Muslims.

It was a pretty good crowd even if it wasn't as big as I would have liked.

12. The wars are
COUNTERPRODUCTIVE. They contribute to the terrorist problem and will resolve nothing.
