John Boehner: Democrats 'win' in government shutdown
Speaker John Boehner is warning his Republican colleagues that Democrats would win a government shutdown and the GOP would suffer a political catastrophe if the federal government runs out of money at the end of this week.

The Democrats think they benefit from a government shutdown. I agree, Boehner said during a closed-door, 90-minute meeting on House Republicans on Monday night, according to several lawmakers who attended the session.

Boehners opinion was quickly backed up GOP lawmakers who were serving in Congress during 1995, when former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) squared off with then-President Bill Clinton by shutting down the government twice. Reps. Don Young (Alaska), Dana Rohrabacher (Calif.) and Buck McKeon (Calif.) a close ally supported Boehners position. Dozens of other Republicans rallied to support Boehner as well, in a moment that one GOP insider called a turning point for House Republicans.

My view is that a government shutdown doesnt benefit anyone necessarily, but if one party or the other is going to get an edge, its probably the Democrats. I agree with the speaker there, Rep. Steve LaTourette (R-Ohio) told POLITICO. If you look at the government shutdown of 1995, it guaranteed President Clintons reelection. And thats what this would do. If you want to cede the presidential race in 2012, you shut down the government.

60. Not fooled, he's not a class act, and no matter how he grew up, he's with the big boys now.
His current range is determined by the company he keeps figthing for such as the Koch brothers and big oil. That's where the man's heart is now, among those he considers worthy.

His viewpoint of those he maligns as poor and the unemployed was on another thread. There is no doubt he considers himself their superior, so that's what I mean.

Peace.

and we know the Kochs don't. I do think they're starting to feel the effects of boycotting of their products. I know I won't buy a thing they produce as long as I know they stand to profit from it. And yes, I used to buy Northern tissue. Hopefully, we can educate more people as to who they are and how to cut into their profits.

65. And put their name out all over the place, like the representative did who said the anti-EPA bill
Should be termed the Koch brothers protection bill.

Folks in Wisconsin this years, and in California during the 2010 elections, have done a great job putting out the facts about the Koch brothers. Their names are now synonymous with corruption, the John Birch Society/JFK assassination and the Tea Party.

So much so that the rightwing pundits had come out to defend the poor silver spoon boys. The word is getting out and we need to be relentless in getting the linkages to the public. The progressives are creating their own meme in response to these reactionaries.

The Teabaggers and Republicons forgive as long as you stay in their camp. They do understand that battling the great Satan is hard work.

Let me put it this way, if Newt Gingrich is still a player in freeperville, then anyone can prosper.

42. THE COOLEST THING ABOUT TEABAGGERS
i have to give them credit in believing in their cause, they don't understand it, they will suffer if it were ever put into play, but goddamn it they do believe strongly in "it"

AND HOW DOES THAT HELP ALL OF US

the teabaggers are the joke of the joke of the joke of the right, in other words, sarah palin and ron paul CLONED into a million toothless tattooed believers

they have put the GOP in the funniest of positions because of their numbers and their strong belief in>>> whatever

so BONER is stuck in the middle. act like a conservative, act like a republican, suck the K Brothers' dicks, kiss the Teabaggers' asses, "tie your shoe or run for the bus, but you can't do both"

AND FOR THAT, AND THAT ALONE, I LOVE THE TEABAGGERS (god help us if they ever actually get REAL decision making power) BUT it is worth watching as they try to eliminate health care, medicare, medical, social security, the postal system, the school system... pretty much everything that these redneck, lead-chip eating, sign-spelling, palm-writing, mouth-breathing, people actually need to live above the drink beer while farting in a mudpuddle level.

GO TEABAGGERS! TEABAG ONWARD!
RUN TOWARD THAT CLIFF AND TAKE THAT ELEPHANT WITH YOU!

45. exactly.
This is a lead up to a meme. They will launch into it after the shutdown claiming the Democrats wanted it to make the Republicans look bad. The Tea party, desperate to not be blamed for what is essentially their fault will trumpet it from the hilltops. It accomplishes two things- it blames the democrats for the budget and it tames the Tea Party a bit.

70. Politically, they do.
No one "wins" a government shutdown on principle. Shutting down the government puts thousands of people out of work for God knows how long. People all over the country are hurt (do SS checks still go out)? It's not a good idea to advocate for, no matter what side of the ideological spectrum you're on, because it basically says "I don't give a shit about the people who elected me to represent them!"

The only winners and losers are on a political level.

23. Don't be fooled, he's just hedging his bets...
The Democrats don't want a government shutdown, and never have. Numerous Republicans, on the other hand, have been saying "if it takes a government shutdown, so be it" for months now. By saying the Democrats "win," he is essentially saying the Democrats want a government shutdown - so if it happens and things go to shit, the D's are to blame. Just think, if this really was a "behind closed doors" meeting, who "leaked" the information, and why? This isn't him conceding anything, it's the Republicans controlling the narrative yet again.

I find nothing about the baggers amusing. They are either willfully ignorant or they actually agree with the meth addicted author because she reflects their deepest feelings.

Most of them, like Rush Limbaugh, will try the 'it's just a joke,' or 'it's a book of fiction,' excuse but I'm not buying it. We better pay attention to what our adversaries really mean and refute them.

Here's another link on Boehner, note the tie he wears:

http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/2010/09/boehnerland...

Any doubt he's a sociopath who cries to manipulate others to get what he wants, like Glenn Beck with his admitted induced tears, while working to destroy those people that he terms as 'born to be ditch diggers' and 'lazy?'

This criminal gang is not worthy of our country or our money.

67. According to Reagan, shutting down the government should benefit everyone.
Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem.

68. What a fucking lying asshole....

72. And this is how the GOP hurts America, one american at a time.
They view this all as a game and the only thing important is if their side wins or loses the rounds of the game.

Really the most pathetic crew of politicans in memory. Not worth a warm pitcher of spit.

75. Quick Obama! Capitulate to their demands!
There's no time to lose, your reputation as a pragmatic dealmaker is on the line! If they retract their demands, you'll look like you're standing up for a principle!
