Hershey to raise candy prices nearly 10 percent
Source: AP

Wednesday, March 30, 2011, 5:29 PM

HERSHEY, Pa. -- Chocolate is soon going to cost more green.

The Hershey Co. is raising wholesale prices by 9.7 percent, because its own costs have risen.

The candy maker says the price increase takes effect immediately.

Consumers may not see the impact on store shelves right away, because many retailers will be able to buy products at the old prices for about eight weeks. The announcement comes just before a popular candy consumption holiday. Americans spend about $2 billion on Easter candy annually.

1. $2 billion on Easter candy annually? I say it's time we changed
our ways and donate some of that money to charity.

What a waste------and I love candy.

19. Nope, never was, it's always been a loser. It just allowed the big players to
make even more $$$, but "we the people" were screwed yet again. I saw that from day one. And, it's allowed the big players to take advantage of other countries. IMO it's been one giant WTF.

12. my thoughts exactly, fug em.
let the corporations introduce the easterfuckingbunny in Guatemala or Peru.

Let's see how great their returns are after that.

Hey, that's a great thought, don't buy any easter candy. I mean it's another pagan way of celebrating a religious holiday.

fug em.

7. But it is called Hershey while much is now made in Mexico
Corporations are now given free reign to call themselves something that has no connection with truth. Why doesn't Hershey call themselves Tijuana Chocolate and proclaim proudly Made in Mexico and let the public decide? Tell the truth and otherwise the Hershey corporation is using the name of Hershey for pure hype. The corporate thieves never pay, only the communities that they pillage.

I just read where some European countries have made laws that restrict corporations from naming their products with geographic names unless they are made their. It means they can't call it Swiss Chocolate while being made in China or elsewhere. It makes righteous sense to me.

Product heritage used to mean something just as did corporate citizenship. Now it means nothing. New England furniture meant something. Product heritage should mean something if they are going to name the product after it.

Was a distinctive quality and flavor, fat, salty sweet, and juicy. God help us if we lose Texas seafood before the Louisiana industry bounces back. Texas' lagunas are the incubators for the gulf at the moment.

11. The only thing of Hershey's I've liked in years,
was the season four Project Runway show where they had to use items from the Hershey's candy store to create their design. It was one of the best PR's ever.

22. Hershey's contains GMOs.
But they'll be removing them from the ones they're selling to Europe!

http://www.naturalnews.com/030826_Hersheys_GMOs.html

"In the past, many large U.S. food producers have argued that reformulating their products to exclude GMOs is not cost effective. But why it was worthwhile for Hershey's to change its product formulas for the European market, but not for the U.S. market, so far remains a question without an answer."

28. genetically-modified organisms Ugh. Boycott companies that give US customers worse
than it gives foreign customers, be it a quality, health or money issue.

And why is our government in cahoots with the likes of Monsanto? We are contaminating our bodies, soil, water, winds, bees and other pollinators and so on. Truly "organic" crops will become a footnote in history.

"And the company plans to reformulate its Europe-destined products to be free of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) in order to meet demand and to comply with the non-GMO requirements of Asda, the U.K. subsidiary of Wal-Mart that will be Hershey's exclusive retailer in the U.K. However, Hershey's has no intentions of changing any of its U.S. formulas, all
