Arctic faces record ozone loss this spring
Source: Nunatsiaq News

Make sure you slap on lots of sunscreen this spring, because there’s a growing hole in the protective layer which keeps harmful rays of ultraviolet light from reaching the surface of the earth.

... “Our measurements show that at the relevant altitudes about half of the ozone that was present above the Arctic has been destroyed over the past weeks,” said institute researcher Markus Rex, describing the current situation in a March 14 news release from Germany’s Alfred Wegener Institute for polar and marine research.

“Since the conditions leading to this unusually rapid ozone depletion continue to prevail, we expect further depletion to occur.”

With unusually low temperatures in upper atmosphere spurring on the massive depletion of ozone, the Arctic appears to be heading for a record loss of ozone, scientists say.

7. Only farts in outerspace will save the ozone layer, I'm afraid.

3. Data Show Incidence of Skin Cancer Rising at Alarming Rate-report
Data Show Incidence of Skin Cancer Rising at Alarming Rate

"NEW ORLEANS (Feb 4, 2011) — For many young adults, the serious health consequences of tanning have been shown to have little impact on their behavior when it comes to sun exposure. But with spring break around the corner, dermatologists are urging people -- particularly young adults -- to practice proper sun protection and understand the importance of early detection of skin cancer, the most common type of cancer.

Speaking today at the 69th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology (Academy), dermatologist Brett M. Coldiron, MD, FAAD, clinical associate professor of dermatology at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, presented new statistics pointing to an increase in non-melanoma skin cancer and why young people are at an increased risk of developing this disease.

Dr. Coldiron reported that in a recent analysis of Medicare claims, data showed that treatment performed for non-melanoma skin cancers in the United States nearly doubled from 1994 to 2006. Specifically, the total number of new non-melanoma skin cancers in 2006 was estimated to be more than 3.5 million.

“While the American Cancer Society estimates more than 2 million new skin cancers will be diagnosed this year, our research shows that the annual incidence in 2008 could actually have been be nearly 3.7 million,” said Dr. Coldiron. “This is especially troubling as our estimate only includes Medicare patients, which means this could be even higher when young people are included in the count.”"

5. the dermatology unit at my kaiser
here in nor cal, is one of the busiest in the building. you have to get a referral to be seen though.

didn't used to be this way, but now you have to sign a form when you arrive at your appt. stating that you will ONLY discuss ONE lesion at your visit, and no more. :( i suspect that when some talk to the dr., they bring ALL their spots up.

australia is not doing well in this area either, so many people with pale skinned british backgrounds...

See! Global warming is a myth.

This hole in the ozone due to cold temps proves it!

But of course the hole in the ozone is a myth too so..

One myth proves the other's a myth.... or something...

Anyway, Jesus would approve whatever is going on.
