Schwarzenegger saves struggling swimmer
…and now for something completely different.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - (KRT) - He has saved the world from nuclear terrorists in "True Lies," invisible monsters in "Predator," futuristic machines in "Terminator 2."

(snip)

As the story goes, Schwarzenegger was taking an early afternoon swim near his Maui retreat on Wednesday when he passed a man clinging to a boogie board about 100 yards from shore.

The Republican governor asked the man if he was OK and the swimmer said he had cramps and couldn't swim back to the beach.

With no "Baywatch" babes on hand and no sign of David Hasselhoff, Schwarzenegger took matters into his own hands and helped the man safely back to shore.

The real-life test may come in handy for the governor when he and his family return from their 10-day Hawaiian vacation: In his absence, his cherished workers' compensation deal looks like it is foundering and may be in need of some life-saving itself.

3. Well, good for him
I don't see how this improves his gubernatorial performance or detracts from his other skills. If I was a Californian, I wouldn't vote for him. That said, I'm glad he did it.

9. That's what I was thinking, too.
Smoking cigars and fussing over memorabilia from his various monolithic movie roles is exhausting work, indeed.

7. The "Aloha spirit" personified!
But, still, I'm sure Arnold was slightly disappointed that it wasn't a girl in distress.

And, if it had been a girl, the tabloids would have had a field day!

:D

On edit, make that: "trying to save mercenaries". I would not wish him luck.

16. Didn't Harrison Ford do something like this a few years ago?
Rescue a kid that fell into a lion pit or something?

I remember him being really reluctant to talk to the press about it and being quite impressed by his modesty and humanity.

And then there was Steve Buscemi pitching in with the fire department on 9/11 and not wanting to make a big deal of it.

And now for something completely different...
