Nearly half of signatures collected for recall of Wisconsin GOP state senators, Dems say
By Greg Sargent

In another sign that the Wisconsin GOP’s quick passage of the bill to roll back bargaining rights is only causing the fight to escalate, Dems have now collected over 45 percent of the signatures necessary to hold recall elections for eight GOP state senators, the Wisconsin Democratic Party tells me.

Dems have now collected over 56,000 signatures supporting the recall drives, according to party spokesman Graeme Zielinski, after another surge in organizing activity over the weekend. That’s up from rougly 14,000 after last weekend. This means Dems are well ahead of schedule: In each targeted district, Dems need to amass the required signatures — 25 percent of the number who voted in the last gubernatorial election — by a deadline of 60 days after first filing for recalls, which happened nearly two weeks ago.

In other words, Dems are reporting they are nearly halfway to the finish line, with roughly three-fourths of the alloted time remaining.

.................

According to Wisconsin Dem spokesman Zielinski, Dems are ahead of pace in signature gathering in every single one of the eight districts being targteted, and in three of the districts, Dems have well over 50 percent of the number required.

2. Hopefully they'll accept signatures well over the required number ...
the repugs are gonna challenge every signature.

8. yes they do
so you turn in as many as possible. The people who are filing the petitions should be verifying signatures to the extent they can through voter rolls and property tax rolls. That also helps to create a list for reminders about registration, etc.

12. Those signatures can also be verified by people
who want to help in some way but do not live in a recall district. My daughter lives in Madison and has all Democratic representation. She has volunteered to check signatures for at least one of the recalls.

The signatures should be checked and rechecked. The petitions will be challenged and stonewalled in every way possible.

9. I wouldn't be surprised if O'Keefe and Breitbart have some sort of
sabotage planned for this recall.

20. Oh, I know, but that hasn't stopped them from inventing things out of whole cloth
and the stupid media stenographers breathlessly reporting it as fact. You know they're going to be up to something. :hi:

6. Excellent. Hopefully an election is scheduled before too long.
That would be quite a battle. Capturing three seats would capture the majority, but it would be great to get a couple nominally safe GOP seats as well, if at all possible.

11. But even if they to capture the majority in the Senate, they
cannot overturn the law already passed without a majority in the House as well, probably a large majority if they want to do overturn the governor's veto. They can stop or limit future damage; but turning this around will take more than the Senate.

13. That's coming, too.
I doubt that Wisconsin will be anything but blue for a long time to come. Wisconsinites have to GOTV, but I think they will. I believe they have learned their lesson. Now I hope the rest of us learn something. There should be no staying home in 2012 just because Obama did not do everything we wanted him to do.

27. Right, but we have to start somewhere. The April 5th election will be huge and
turning the Senate would stop a lot of the other shenanigans Snotty has up his sleeve. The Assembly will have the writing on the wall for them in 2012 and out they go. it won't stop this damn bill (well, the courts could), but we must make an effort. Hopefully you agree with that.

17. the law clarifies that
a bad/invalid signature does not invalidate any other signatures.

But you know how agonizing it will be to answer the tens of thousands of challenges the republicans will put up, so yes, we must be diligent and persistent and strong.

19. Certainly no more than a Walker motorcade convoy...
with more state-owned limos and security vehicles than a celebrity funeral, desperately seeking out a restaurant for the governor to dine in before protesters find out about it and arrive in advance to "greet" him.

:wow:

23. These people don't deserve to finish out their current terms
A line has been crossed. Decisive and immediate action is needed to help restore a truly representative democracy, one that does not trample on the rights of its citizens. The momentum is here today and may be gone tomorrow if complaceny is allowed to set in -- go for it Wisconsin!
