Romney boosts Bush on Mich. trip | Boston Globe
Romney boosts Bush on Mich. trip

By Sarah Schweitzer, Globe Staff, 4/9/2004

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- In a measure of his growing national stature, Governor Mitt Romney yesterday traveled to the state where his father once served as governor to open the Bush-Cheney headquarters here and light into John F. Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

"I am proud to stand with a president who stands for something," Romney told nearly 100 Republican activists in this suburb of office parks and cul-de-sacs where his father, a three-term governor and 1968 presidential contender, presided over American Motors.

As for Kerry, Romney said, "I have some perspective on the man. He's a good person. He's a friendly person. Shake his hand and say hello and have a nice conversation. But interestingly enough, if you talk to him about the issues, you have difficulty understanding exactly where he stands."

1. Romney is quite the Grifter.
First, he lives in Utah, then he comes back to Massachussetts in 94' to run again Ted Kennedy. Then he moves back to Utah :puke:
and then he moves back to Massachussetts to run for Governor, wins and now is campaigning for Bush in Michigan.

...quite the grifter.

3. It says Romney's father is fondly remembered
For his progressive policies.

How did Mitt become such an ignorant reactionary?

4. His father, George (the MI governor) was born in Mexico

But his parents weren't polygamists (I think George's g'pa was, though).
George was a good governor here, but I don't remember him being particularly "progressive" -- that would've been his suceessor, Bill Milliken (R). Interestingly enough, Romney had a Democratic lieutenant governor during his first term.
I will say George wasn't a reactionary (he and Barry Goldwater couldn't stand each other, for instance). I believe he backed William Scranton in the '64 GOP primaries (this from history books -- I was eight at the time).
John
Can't tell you how Mitt got to be such an ass -- George and Lenore were both very decent people.

5. "... a president that stands for something"???
Is this guy for real? WTF does Bush stand for? I mean.. really? Stands for a photo to be taken while he puts his arm around minorities perhaps.. but nothing else. Between Romney, and McCain who pronounced his love for Bush's "moral leadership" last week.. you have to think that these guys are delusional.
