UPDATED: No record of FBI nabbing Palin stalker
Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 06:12 PM by RamboLiberal
Source: Washington Post

Politico's Ben Smith reports that an original Daily Mirror report cited by Fox News (and cited in this blog post) that reported Shawn Christy had been arrested was wrong.

According to Politico's Smith, the Mirror report appeared to be an exaggeration of a statement Palin's father Chuck Heath made during an interview with the BBC :

-----

Smith goes on to write that Eric Gonzalez, a spokesman for the FBI's Anchorage field office said the stories were false, and that an Alaska state police spokeswoman and a spokeswoman for the Anchorage Police Department had no record of any contact with Christy.

3. Yes he does - Politico's Excuse is this story from last month
ANCHORAGE — A Pennsylvania man accused of stalking Wasilla residents Sarah Palin and Kristan Cole made an uneventful trip to Anchorage Friday and Saturday.

Shawn Christy, 19, of McAdoo, Penn., made his first trip to Anchorage — and first trip on a jet plane — on an Alaska Airlines jet that landed early Friday morning. He stayed in a Spenard hotel, had lunch at the Fancy Moose in the Millennium Hotel that afternoon and flew home to Pennsylvania Saturday morning.

He said he paid $350 each way for tickets to fly to Alaska for 30 hours or so. He did not have a rental car, he said, and did not leave Anchorage — except by plane to fly home.

Palin and Cole filed, and were granted, 20-day protective orders against Christy in September 2010 after they told the court that they had received receipts from him for the purchase of a gun, a one-way plane ticket and a call from him on a phone with a 907 area code.

The protective order was later extended until April.

Guess he's supposed to stay out of the whole friggin' state of Alaska to please Palin and parents!

5. Stupid freak. Just drawing more attention to her and making her a victim.
This guy should be arrested for putting her back in the news alone.

7. Why isn't the media looking into these lies?
I mean, Palin is using the lies to sway public opinion to support her positions. Fair game to point out someone is a liar!

9. Have the media look into themselves?
At least according to the link, it was the Mirror who made the claim of the arrest:

According to Politico's Smith, the Mirror report appeared to be an exaggeration of a statement Palin's father Chuck Heath made during an interview with the BBC :

JL: And people have threatened her life?
CH: Oh yeah, oh yeah. And her kids too.
JL: In what way, what are they saying?
CH: A good example is one guy from Pennsylvania. He sent us and other people copies of a gun he'd bought, copies of a receipt for a gun he bought, copies of a one-way ticket to Anchorage. We kind of laugh it off, we got a restraining order on him, and lo and behold last week he showed up in Anchorage, from Pennsylvania, and fortunately the FBI was on top of it and sent him home.

The Palins may be dirtbags, but let's try to stick to actual facts here. It does no good whatsoever to go around calling someone else a liar when you don't have your own facts straight.
