Rep. Heath Shuler votes to repeal part of health reform

U.S. Representative Heath Shuler voted Thursday to repeal reporting provisions contained in last year's health insurance reform law.

The Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act of 2011, bill H.R. 4, which repeals the requirement placed on small businesses to file 1099 forms with the IRS for the purchase of goods or services from a vendor totaling more than $600 a year, according to a press release from Shuler's office. The bill also repeals the IRS 1099 reporting requirement for individuals and companies who own rental properties.

“This bill is a great example of Democrats and Republicans coming together to find commonsense ways to solve a problem,” Shuler said in the statement. He was a co-sponsor of H.R. 4, which was originally introduced by Rep. Dan Lofgren (R-CA). The bill passed the House with bipartisan support 314–112.

1. I would vote to repeal the 1099 provision too if replacement revenue can be found
Small businesses should not be burdened unless it is absolutely necessary.

Do you mean "small business" as in lawyers and Sara Palin?

6. As a small biz owner, I say BS - my Quickbooks program will spit these out
in 10 minutes or less - all you do is mark the box for 1099's when set up a vendor (the first time you write them a check generally) and the computer keeps track of how much you pay them as you continue writing checks through the year.

There is no huge paperwork burden to doing this.

3. Name me one rep who doesn't want to get rid of that provision.
Almost everyone recognizes that is an inefficient way to increase revenue.

4. There are plenty of reasons to dislike this douchebag
Voting to get rid of a stupid requirement isn't one of them however.

9. Next --and last--thing to go: individual mandate

I don't think anyone should be compelled to buy health insurance, especially from these private companies who that charge whatever the hell they want, only to promise first-rate health care and then rescind such care when you get deathly ill.

10. This bill has an amendment tacked on which is a "poison pill"
that eliminates a key provision of the health care act.

It was tacked on by the repukes last week.

While this is a good idea (to repeal the filing of 1099 forms for $600 a year in purchases from a vendor (if you go to Staples a few times a year, you have to 1099 them)... the poison pill rider needs to be removed before the Senate votes on it.

This was covered on Thom Hartmann's show yesterday by one of his regular guests that covers news items (I'm sorry I can't remember her name).

11. It was a stupid provision...
How many people here are going to want to be providing their SS # to anyone they sell $600 or more to? Its no so bad for those with Federal Tax Id, but sole proprietors do not have that.
