Public locked out of Wisconsin Capitol as demonstrations embark upon third week

Though a handful of protesters remain inside, state closes building to new arrivals

On Monday morning, the Capitol was supposed to resume normal business hours, opening to the public at 8 a.m. But as week three of the protest began, protesters found themselves locked out of the building.

In an early morning press release (PDF), Jodi Jenson, administrative executive assistant with the Department of Administration, said: "Visitors will continue to have access to the State Capitol but traffic through the building will be reduced to allow for a thorough cleaning and then to ensure the safety and security of everyone attending the governor’s speech on Tuesday night." The statement goes on to list multiple rules regarding access to the Capitol, in place until further notice.

Two hours later, DOA issued another release (PDF) saying "No additional protesters will be allowed into the building until this situation is resolved. Once it is, law enforcement will continue to implement the procedures that were announced this morning. Under those procedures, protesters will be allowed into the building, but crowd size will be adjusted to accommodate the cleaning crews, the preparation for the Tuesday's joint legislative session and the number of protesters who remained in the building overnight."

3. Sure it is, if you're Governor people, Legislature people, or news people.
Then it's the people's house. See, all them protesters and whatnot is prolly outside agitators. That's why they can't be let in. But some outside agitators can get in. Like that David Koch from New York. He's real people so he can get in.

4. That's exactly what Gaddafi is saying - the protestors must be outsiders.
Governor Snot Wanker is the best thing to happen to the Democratic Party since Dumbya.

5. I guess they don't use union workers to clean, do they?
They will have to form a committee to contract housekeeping work to clean the johns.

6. The dems have found a loophole
I heard today that one of the dems is going to try to have a 'hearing' tomorrow on one thing or another.
The law states that when there is a 'hearing' the Capitol building MUST be completely open to the public.

Hope that works :)

8. I remember it well.
When they first came out with 401(k)s they were called saving plans, and they existed in conjunction with defined benefit pension plans. I participated in both simultaneously. Then without ceremony my 401(k) saving plan was renamed to a 401(k) pension plan. This was the first step in setting up the attack on my defined benefit pension plan. I believe you are well aware of how this played out nationwide in the private sector.

In my case the demise of employee medical insurance started out under the guise of 'cafeteria benefits'. We were told, "This is what today's employee wants." That might have been the worst part, being insulted by their sickening corporatespeak that let us know they thought we were all fools.

It is clear that these neoliberals want the same thing to happen to everyone - in the public and private sector - who still has a decent pension and employer-provided medical insurance. That is, unless you are a senior executive. Then your compensation can't ever be lavish enough.
