Gmail Reset Erases Messages? Users Report All Emails DELETED
Source: Huffington Post

Some Gmail users are reporting a major problem with Google's email service--specifically, that all of their emails, labels, themes, folders, and other personalized settings have all been erased.

Several Gmail help forums were filled with users that had experienced this problem. Users reported that they were able to receive new messages, but that none of their previous email exchanges were appearing. Contacts appear to have been preserved and the issue only seems to be affecting a subset of Gmail users ("less than .29% of the Google Mail userbase," according to Google).

"I have lost ALL on my emails/folders etc. from gmail. Why would this happen? How can I restore everything?" wrote user bkishan.

"I was on my eMail normal and when I refreshed all my account settings, eMail, labels, contacts etc has just disappeared. I was running at 80% capacity is that anything to do with it? Is there a way that one can restore all of that?" asked another.

1. Lordy... well, I'll say one thing for AOL.... I've got >20 years
of stored emails that are still there.... Convenient, but not something I'd depend on if they were critical. Nonetheless, I've never had them "loose" my stored emails.

2. Appears to be a hack

My account was accessed from a chinese IP address. Sent a phishing email to my contacts, then deleted my address book and emails. Happened on 2/21 at 11:06PM.

Fortunately I use gmail only for unsecure mails.

I haven't been able to figure out if it was a password hack or a hack into gmail at this point.

Poetic justice. I use that account for my complaints to customer service. The chinese hacker can take it up with the indian customer rep. Let him try to make sense out of the reply.

6. Give people something that is free, and they still complain about it

I just went through this BS with Gmail, and it ain't no fun. If you promise to deliver a service -- no matter the cost -- then totally trash the personal belongings of the people who depend on that service (email addresses, etc.) -- you deserve to hear a complaint.

Only a Republicon infested with Family Pharisee Values would want to avoid responsibility for this kind of FAIL, as republicons so routinely do... Google needs to embrace American Values, and accept responsibility for their actions. That's called honor.

8. Google embraces Republican values
They weasel as much information, personal and otherwise, out of a user. Then Google uses that information for their own profit, and they are secretive about the quantity, quality, and end use for the information.

If an Internet user is not aware of the phishing scheme Google is conducting on every single user, they need to shut down their computers and get a basic privacy education.

I have several Gmail accounts that I obtained before they started asking for cell phone numbers. I never, and I mean never, put any information on Google that I would not want published in the public domain.

GOOGLE is not your friend!

9. Except that it's not free: you trade your privacy for the service.

In exchange for email service, google gets to profile you by sending their robots to read your mail.

10. Can someone tell me what a "reset" in Gmail is ???
I would expect that if one pushed a "reset" button, just as when one does so in other computer equipment, etc. the device would start over, and one might not expect the old stuff to be there!

I don't know how Gmail works, or when one would push the "reset". Can someone tell me specifically what it is and when one would do that?

11. Update says only .08% of users were affected.
And if your shit is that important to you, maybe the user should try backing up once in a while.
