Tea Party to rally for Wisconsin anti-union bill
'Meeting fire with fire' after moves by Democrats block Republican vote

MADISON, Wis. With Republican state lawmakers stymied over plans to pass an anti-union bill, and Gov. Scott Walker saying he would not compromise, Tea Party activists joined in the controversy by organizing a rally Saturday in support of the legislation.

Drew Ryun, president of American Majority Action, one of the conservative groups planning the demonstration, said organizers were "meeting fire with fire."

"We have buses coming in from all over the state," Ryun said of what was dubbed the "I Stand With Scott Walker" rally. "We see this as the opening salvo of the 2012 election season. The Tea Party movement facing off against the unions. And we like the odds."

Walker on Friday ruled out a compromise proposed by a key union to retain collective bargaining rights in exchange for public workers accepting benefit cuts.

Koch Industries Slashed WI Jobs, Helped Elect Scott Walker, Now Orchestrating Pro-Walker Protest

A number of the big business interests standing with Walker are beneficiaries of his administrations tax giveaways. But the greatest ally to Walker is the dirty energy company Koch Industries. In response to the growing protests in Madison, Koch fronts are busing in Tea Party protesters to support Walker and his union-busting campaign. Last night, MSNBCs Ed Schultz reported on the involvement of Club for Growth and the Koch-financed Americans for Prosperity in the pro-Walker protest scheduled tomorrow.

38. That's what they need to use.
I saw something simliar in Canada where they watched closely those who wore heavy boots and carried things that could be used as weapons. They stopped the provocateurs in their tracks. It was an attempt to get the police there to attack the protestors. Those who were sent to cause trouble failed.

Part of making it fail was sending video from their cellphones to youtube during the protests, live clips. This technique has been used to let people know what is really happening on the ground in protests, free of media spin or any media blackout.

The media will generally report what authorities want, not what happened. In several cases I've seen reported on youtube, as the events unfolded they were made available to many people even if they got arrested later, and used for legal defense.

-AFP President Tim Phillips to Speak from Wisconsin State Capitol-
Americans for Prosperity today launched StandwithWalker where citizen activists from across the country can show support for Wisconsin Governor Scott Walkers common sense reform to end union collective bargaining and tackle the states nearly $4 billion deficit.

*Note where it says "from across the country", I have been to Madison every day since Monday. All grass roots...From Wisconsin.

BTW: My mother recieved a robocall from the AFB a$$holes at 8pm tonight on going to Madison tomorrow for the noon event...And she is a staunch Democrat...Wonders if they got her # when she called her republican assembly person and senator and walkers office advocating for the rights of collective bargaining.

31. In an different time, these people would have been called provocateurs
Remember the Tea Party demonizing the woman whose head they stomped on in Kentucky as a professional, traveling agitator?

Why aren't these folks being called the same thing?

They don't come from WI, they are being bused in to make trouble to allow a crack down, possibly a declaration of martial law.

Sending love to the people standing on the lines in Madison.

18. That's exactly what I don't get -- WHY we're not working to end computer voting ...???
Citizens are outraged at what the GOP is doing --

ergo difficult to believe they voted for them!!

These computers began coming in during late 1960's --

I'd question every election back to Nixon/Humphrey -- !!

41. When Ohio voted punch cards, the ballots were the evidence of vote rigging.
When there are paper ballots that can be recounted, you have evidence.
When you have an electronic voting machine, there is no evidence, just a result you have to trust and cannot recount!
We were on to them and the scam was up, so they passed a law that moved us into the new evidenciary-free voting systems.

Completely agree with you -- !

PS: I still find it shocking that we have no leadership on a campaign to overturn

computers! Any ideas on what tools we could use and where it has to begin?

48. Agree -- and should be more frequent discussion here at DU ....
Does it have to start at local levels -- I mean ten years ago I know we had people

here in NJ who gave no thought to computers being hackable -- don't know where they

are on this now cause I usually vote absentee now.

And even though people once give something thought -- they need to be reminded --

and agree we need a campaign on this issue -- one of the most urgent, imo!!

Like have a huge kettle of tar kept warm over a fire, lots of fire, and several good size poles?

And when any of them show up make it look like an aisle opens up and they get directed to the spot. Then pretend to run after them.

Edited on Sat Feb-19-11 02:17 PM by forty6
them that they should be standing up for corporations' rights to bust unions, for the right of one single Governor to bust public employee unions. Last year, they were convinced Obama was taking away their "freedoms" and their guns. (Of course it wasn't true!) This year, it's just fine and dandy if Governor Walker takes away the rights and freedoms of tens of thousands of fellow Americans !!! Tea baggers are ALL FOR THAT!!! Why? because Fox News told them what to think!

Tea baggers are not for freedom anymore! That was so "last year"! Now, whatever Fox News tells them to do, they do! Whoever Fox News tells them to hate, (e.g. public employees, labor unions, collective bargaining) the Tea baggers will hate! Fox News rules their tiny brains!
