Mexicans take to streets over drug-violence surge
Source: AFP

MEXICO CITY (AFP) – Mexicans took to the streets in their hundreds to protest a staggering surge in drug-related violent crime nationwide that claimed at least 45 lives in one weekend.

"No more violence, no more lack of safety, no more corrupt politicians, let's move ahead with citizen candidates," marchers on the touristy Paseo de la Reforma shouted after at least 45 people died in Monterrey and Guadalajara, and the northern state of Chihuahua.

Demonstrators marched to the Senate to unveil an appeal for tougher anti-drug laws.

The attacks were the latest deadly violence gripping Mexico's war on drugs, as the country's various criminal cartels struggle over turf and the government uses police and soldiers in an attempt to crush them.

1. Knowing that the "war on drugs" is nothing about stopping drug usage,
and all about rich being rich and keeping people afraid and govt in their hands, it is a very good thing to see protests rising up... Great that they know its politicians as well as the cartels that are hand in hand... That both need to be dealt with.

3. If and when the cartels are finally rousted -
would anyone but the most ignorant be surprised if the CIA and prior Republican (U.S.) governments weren't behind them?

7. If the congress or government was smart..quit subsidizing Mexico
Edited on Mon Feb-14-11 07:18 AM by iamhuman
If the congress or government was smart, they would quit subsidizing Mexico THINK ABOUT IT
or are they Smart and fully aware, Kind of like the bank bail out.

1.The people of USA like to use drugs.
2.Mexicans are all to happy to sell them to US
3.Some say the Mexican drug business is 39 Billion.
4.Is there some reason the government wants us to send all that profit 80%+ to make Mexico richer?
4.(A) 39,000,000,000 that is a 31,200,000,000 trade deficit.
5.Why have prohibition when we know it doesn't work.

The Question is who is really making the money on this deal.
Most assume Mexico is crooked.
But if you think about it who is getting the payoff in the USA, Why would send, "31,200,000,000" to Latin America?

??????
