2. Forgive my skepticism.
I suspect this has more to do with Germany saving face for taking him in. Although I suppose the news of his assets being frozen by multiple countries must have been a shock.

3. You may be right.. I found the orignal sources..
The Bahrain-based newspaper Al-Wasat reported Saturday that Mubarak had fallen into a coma, quoting sources close to the deposed leader.

The Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm said Sunday that Mubarak was in Baden, Germany for medical treatment.

8. Sounds like propaganda to me.
Bahrain folks are planning a protest next week.

Could be that the Bahrain newspaper is putting out a false story to lead people there to think that Murbarak really didn't step down but that he is just ill.

And how can he be in Germany when this morning there was a reporter outside where Murbarak is staying in Sharm el-Sheikh?

4. Faking your death would be a good way of getting out and starting a
new life with billions of stolen dollars. The money is probably in an account with his new identity.

6. Dead men tell no tales
I wouldn't be surprised if he died before he could be forced to testify in any kind of civil or criminal investigation. I am sure that there are a lot of prominent people worldwide who were accomplices in his crimes.

Mubarak's death would be very convenient on multiple fronts, and his utility has certainly expired.

16. News from last summer - Egyptian leader’s health on radar of U.S.
Sunday, July 18, 2010

...Mr. Mubarak on Sunday held meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; President Obama‘s special envoy to the Middle East conflict, George J. Mitchell; and the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.

Nonetheless, the 82-year-old Egyptian leader is thought by most Western intelligence agencies to be dying from terminal cancer affecting his stomach and pancreas.

Earlier this month, several Arab and Hebrew newspapers reported that Mr. Mubarak recently sought treatment for his ailment at a hospital in France. A senior Egyptian government official interviewed for this article said those reports were “without any factual basis whatsoever.”

There are, however, other indications that Mr. Mubarak‘s health is failing. In March, the Egyptian leader traveled to Germany for what at the time was said to be gallbladder surgery, a treatment that took him out of action for six weeks, according to a special report on Egypt in the current issue of the Economist...cont'd

Unconfirmed report: Mubarak in coma
Published: Feb. 14, 2011 at 8:45 AM

CAIRO, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Egypt's army told protesters in Cairo's Tahrir Square to leave or be arrested and an unconfirmed report said ousted President Hosni Mubarak was in a coma.

Al-Masry al-Youm quoted "well-informed sources" as saying Mubarak, 82, had fallen into a coma in his Sharm el-Sheik residence.

But RIA Novosti reported that the pro-government daily al-Gomhuria, citing sources, said Mubarak was in a "severe psychological condition" but not in a coma.

From reports, it seems like he was really out of touch with reality and never really understood how much he was hated by the Egyptian people.
