Congressman Chris Lee (R-NY) Resigns After Shirtless Photo Posted on Internet

Rep. Chris Lee, R-N.Y., resigned from Congress after a report emerged that he had sent flirtatious e-mails, including one with a bare-chested photo of himself, to a woman he met on Craigslist.

Lee is married and has a child.

(snip)

On Wednesday, the gossip website Gawker posted a story that included the e-mails allegedly exchanged between Lee and the unnamed woman. According to the story, a single 34-year old woman from Maryland posted an ad on Craigslist's "Women for Men" section on Jan. 14. Soon afterwards a man named Christopher Lee replied, identifying himself as a 39-year-old divorced lobbyist.

In the exchange that followed, Lee reportedly sent the woman an e-mail including a photo of him with his shirt off, flexing his arms and chest. The woman later broke off her correspondence with Lee when she did an online search for him and determined that he had lied about his age and his job, the Gawker story reported.

Heavy republican district (up around Buffalo - where Palladino did quite well against Cuomo). Of course, anything is possible in a special election. We need a very strong candidate.

48. Depends on what your definition of "we" is. I'm guessing
his wife and kids may think HE has an ethics issue.

I'm guessing his Party may also think HE has an ethics issue andmay have asked him to resign--the same Party that once asked Foley to run again, stepping away only after his emails hit the fan.

However, after that, his Party decided it had to "return" to its core values or perish. And its core values do not seem to include "judge not."

Why Ensign and Vitter escaped, and continue to escape, abandonment by their Party is beyond me.

when Pukes get caught in these types of scandals. Underscores the hypocrisy. Sure Dems get caught in them too but they don't claim to be Saints, unlike the supposed Puke Moral Police.

Plus how stupid was this guy? Did he think he wouldn't get found out?

Hope Cumo is able to and will appoint a Dem.

75. May not be required to live in your district.
Don't know if it's the case in NY state, but here in VA a congressman can be elected to a district other than the one he lives in. It just happened in the last election - Morgan Griffith (R, ugh) took the 9th district seat which had been in Democratic hands for many many years - and he lives outside that district. I know, it sounds weird, but it can happen. However, I think the states have the control on rules for election to Congress seats.

This is one story of a Republican involved in a sex scandal who; is not gay, not with a prostitute, not with a prostitute and wearing diapers, didn't punch his mistress, the woman is of legal age, at least in the beginning was consensual, no one died or went to the hospital, didn't involve getting another colleague involved, wasn't in any way-at least so far-against the law, the Republican lawmaker didn't or hasn't yet lied to the press, is actually taking full responsibility before backed into a corner for his actions, hasn't blamed-Democrats, anyone else, the woman, the press, his barber-, didn't cry at the press conference announcing his resignation-I may be premature about this, didn't say he had been weak and ask forgiveness from God, his wife and family-again, I may be wrong about this......

59. NY Rep. Lee (R) resigns after shirtless photo story
Source: AP/Yahoo

CLARENCE, N.Y. – A married New York congressman accused of sending a shirtless photo of himself to a woman abruptly resigned Wednesday, saying he regretted actions that had hurt his family and others.

The gossip website Gawker reported Wednesday that Rep. Christopher Lee, a two-term Republican with a young son, had e-mailed the photo to a woman he met on the Craigslist classified-ads website.

Lee said in an e-mailed statement that his resignation was effective immediately. The statement offered no confirmation or details of a Craigslist posting.

"I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents," Lee said in a statement posted on his congressional website. "I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness."
