Pulaski grad becomes state’s youngest Iraq casualty
http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/news/archive/local_15606779.shtml

Ryan Jerabek wanted to go to college and become a history teacher. But first he wanted to serve his country, so he joined the Marine Corps, despite his father’s protests. Last month, the 18-year-old Jerabek shipped out to Iraq and on Tuesday, Ken and Rita Jerabek got the news their son had been killed.

Jerabek, a Vietnam-era vet who helped to get the remains of fallen soldiers home from Southeast Asia, didn’t want his son to join the military

“He wanted to join the Marine Corps, but I was dead set against it the way the things in the world were going,” Jerabek said, noting that military officials have not provided the family with any information about the return of Ryan’s body.

My take ---Sad but for What

RIP Ryan------------saigon

3. Weep for their children as well.
The Iraqis have lost so many of their children too.

The pic of those dead Iraqi babies that someone posted on here earlier will haunt me for a very very long time.

4. I Do
The children of Fallujah, who are rapidly running out of food, water...

Falloojeh has been cut off from the rest of Iraq for the last three days. It's terrible. They've been bombing it constantly and there are dozens dead. Yesterday they said that the only functioning hospital in the city was hit by the Americans and there's no where to take the wounded except a meager clinic that can hold up to 10 patients at a time. There are over a hundred wounded and dying and there's nowhere to bury the dead because the Americans control the area surrounding the only graveyard in Falloojeh; the bodies are beginning to decompose in the April heat. The troops won't let anyone out of Falloojeh and they won't let anyone into it either- the people are going to go hungry in a matter of days because most of the fresh produce is brought from outside of the city. We've been trying to call a friend who lives there for three days and we can't contact him.

And I get uncomfortable when I run out of Dr. Pepper...I need to re-think my priorities.

5. That was my work
It is mass tragedy on both sides.

In Nam over 2 1/2 million Vietnamese were killed.

They ended up with the government they wanted. it was inevitable.

7. This is where the Chimp can't control Public opinion
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 05:29 AM by saigon68
They cannot control the local media. They cannot control what the families say. To do so would be really silly on their part. Sooner or later a giant groundswell is going to overtake this madness. It will start in earnest when the "Draft" is proposed.

There are a lot of DINOS out there who think a draft is a good thing. This board will get very ugly when this gem is proposed.

Its one thing to complain about your kid who was blown to bits because he volunteered. It is another thing to throw rocks at the police in a demonstration because your kid was drafted and then blown to a dozen bloody chunks for President Cheney's Halliburton Company profits.

Mark my words.

edit---yikes its early

9. Good Morning saigon....
Already I have heard congress people denying we need a draft. I hope the issue gets bigger before the election. People need to KNOW if they vote for that aWol* coward in 2004 they get a draft in 2005.

10. Morning LC
With the "Rice Bowl" on TV today-- taking up the 4th Estates gushing praise for "A Woman who gets Things Done"

expect Central Command to dribble out about 25 KIA's 2 or 3 at a time.

13. Only in the service for 8 months
This included basic and AIT.

Got to wonder what the experience of the NCO's was, in this unit. He was apparently part of the group of 12 killed in Ramadi on Tues.

16. What a waste...
At least five of the casualties from the last few days were just 18 or 19 years old. What the hell were their parents thinking of, letting them join?

Saigon, I really appreciate the fine job you do on DU, thank you.
