Egyptian protesters bloodied and shaken but unmoved

CAIRO — The day after Wednesday's rampage, blood stained the streets of Tahrir Square. It oozed through the bandages wrapping the heads of the protesters and crusted around their bleary eyes. People walked around in a daze, barely able to articulate what had been done to them or what they'd dealt out in return.

One man, a 30-year-old lawyer named Tareq Hussein Ali, whose sweatshirt was so bloodied it looked like a red-brown bib, ventured his analysis: "Egypt will never be as it used to be," he said.

In the battle for Tahrir Square, the heart of Egypt's 10-day uprising against U.S.-allied President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule, the protesters took on and ultimately prevailed over the pro-government gangs sent in to beat them.

In a highly choreographed but primitive siege, played out before a worldwide television audience, the attackers launched gasoline bombs and skull-sized stones from rooftops and bridges or galloped through the teeming square on horses and camels.

2. the horses and camels were local tourist vendors

and not part of anything "highly choreographed" They were pissed that the ongoing protests were driving away business. They, apparently, aren't very smart. Either that or they just felt like getting dragged off their horses and having their asses kicked that day.

8. I've been in a couple of protests where things looked to get nasty

for a while, and you get that tight feeling in the stomach.

But it's insignificant compared to what the Egyptians are facing, and I admire their courage. I don't think we
in the west can imagine the nerve it takes to go out every day, knowing it really could be your last.

I do hope they will prevail.

Now,since many Americans are armed and insane, our revolution will be a bloody mess, unlike Egypt.

BTW, do you see any old, fat people among the masses? America's Teabaggers are dreaming if they think they could even walk 2 blocks, much less participate in a running street fight.
