US lacked a clear, cohesive policy on Iraq, says Perle
It has suddenly become the season of the tell-all tome. First, there was Paul O'Neill, the former Treasury secretary who told of a Bush administration obsessed by Iraq from day one. Most recently came Richard Clarke, the ex-counterterrorism chief who alleges the White House ignored al-Qaeda until it was too late.

Sandwiched in between, however, and given far less notice, was another book highly critical of those around President George W. Bush, but from a much more surprising source: Richard Perle, the former Pentagon adviser often regarded as the intellectual godfather of the administration's aggressive foreign policy.

Unlike the other books, An End to Evil - co-written by yet another administration migr, David Frum, a former speechwriter - is careful to steer clear of Mr Bush himself as well as Mr Perle's patron, Donald Rumsfeld, defence secretary. But Mr Perle's book takes aim at almost everyone else in the senior reaches of the Bush foreign policy team and accuses many of them of significant failures in the run-up to, and the aftermath of, the war in Iraq.

On the armed forces: "Much of the planning for, and debate about, the Iraq campaign exposed the grip of the dead hand of military tradition." On the State department: "Seldom has the foreign policy bureaucracy inflicted such shameful damage on American interests than in its opposition to working with Saddam's Iraqi opponents." On the CIA: "George Tenet has been the director of central intelligence since 1997, time enough to have changed the agency's culture. He has failed. He should go."

1. Mind-boggling, tongue-swallowing, church-bell-ringing hypocrisy!!!
Well, gee, DICK, who if not you was in charge of the bellicose buffoons who just KNEW exactly how to "free the Middle East" and "bring democracy to the long-suffering Iraqis?"

Hear that flopping, splashing sound? It's the sound of the ultimate Neo-Con insider, desperately paddling upstream against the current of the river of shit he himself unleashed.

3. AEI and Newt Gingerich have been trying to blame this on the State Dept
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 04:32 PM by SpikeTrees
With Iraq going to hell, the Bush administration is going to look to blame this on someone and the lap-dog press is going to go along with it. They will blame it on those opposed to the war for not being patriotic enough. If Kerry gets elected, they are going to try to pin the blame on him somehow. The republicans never take responsibility for anything that they do.

AEI = American Enterprise Institute

I personally hope his life and the life of all the other traitors are destroyed as a result of this. I want to see indictment and prison for all of them.

Oh, yeah, Dicky, everybody's fault the damn thing is crashing like the Hindenburg except for you, and your precious Rumsferatu and Bush.

What "planning"? What "debate"? You fuckers knew you were going back into Iraq ever since Poppy pulled up short in GWI.

YOU, Mr. Perle, are also amongst the ones who convinced yourself that the Iraqi people would be throwing roses and pussy instead of roadside bombs and 7.62 rounds.

But then, it's your book, you can portray your slimey self any way you like, right?

I think after your trial they ought to break your legs and throw in Dumbya's hog pen with the brood sows...

Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 04:46 PM by calimary
If ANYBODY is to blame, directly for any of this mess, it's Richard Perle, one of the leading lights of PNAC. They don't call him the Prince of Darkness for nothing. What a weasel!

Actually, he also qualifies as a rat. One of those now scrambling to desert a sinking ship. NOW you say it was a bad plan, Perle? This was originally YOUR plan.

30. That may be the entertaining part of this whole mess...
Watching evil turn upon itself. Watching the shit really hit the fan as these traitorous cowards throw each other to the wolves to save their own hides.

I'm beginning to believe it's really breaking down for them. They're cracking like an egg in a vice. The question is: how far will they go in their desperation? A trapped, wounded animal is the most dangerous of all.

He is admonishing State for NOT working with Chalibi ... He is criticizing the "grip of the dead hand of military tradition", IE those in the DoD who did NOT want to attack Iraq or agree with the specific war planning vis a vis Wolfotwitz and Rumsmells ...

Perle is angry that NOT ENOUGH toed the PNAC/Vulcan line of BS ...

16. His most telling falsehood.
"Seldom has the foreign policy bureaucracy inflicted such shameful damage on American interests than in its opposition to working with Saddam's Iraqi opponents."

Everything, EVERYTHING I've read since the war indicates it was the morons who BELIEVED every word out of Chalabi's mouth that were the true screwups in this situation. They were the ones claiming Saddam had WMD. They were the ones feeding us false intelligence. And now this penultimate asshole blames the people who didn't believe the liars.

This guy is scum.

David Frum and Richard Perle, along with all their Straussian neocon friends, are out-and-out traitors who need to be lined up against the wall and shot after the war crimes trials have sufficiently proved their treasonous criminality.

This isn't a "tell-all tome", fuck you very much Mr. Peter Spiegel - nice shilling, you 'useful idiot'!

20. It just goes to show you
when it comes to

1) integrity, they have none.

2) solidarity - in your dreams.

3) take responsibility for their actions - hah.

4) a profit motive - now you're cookin'

Richard Perle is like a rat sitting on a sinking ship. He has noticed the water line is moving up, as the PNAC plans have been shot to shit over the past year. He is an arms dealer and would sell his mother for $5.00, if he could get it. He would betray the US in a heartbeat. All he understands is money.

I noticed that William Kristol, also one of the founding fathers of the PNAC, is full of criticism against the very organization he formed. I read his newsletter a while back, and he had lots to complain about.

Just goes to show you these people have 0 loyalty to each other, much less the US which harbors these criminals.

22. Go easy on Mr. Perle
He's just now realizing that the only songs people will be singing about the neocons in the future are likely to be quite rude and make prominent use of the words "pompous assholes".

They will discover Richard Perle, member and former chair of the Defense Policy Board, who rhapsodized, "This is total war. We are fighting a variety of enemies. There are lots of them out there. All this talk about first we are going to do Afghanistan, then we will do Iraq... this is entirely the wrong way to go about it. If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely and we don't try to piece together clever diplomacy, but just wage a total war... our children will sing great songs about us years from now."

If you go back to ACTUAL testimony and ACTUAL reportage in the lead up to the Iraqi invasion, Shinseki said that troop estimates were waaaay too low.

Lt. Col. Karen Kwiatkowski has written a series of articles about her time at the Pentagon with the neocons (she retired in disgust) and the neocons accused Zinni of being a TRAITOR because he said their plans were unrealistic.

I wish Zinni and Shinseki could get Perle alone in a room with a bagfull of the bones of American soldiers and beat the shit out of this chickenhawk war criminal.
