Majority of russians want Lenin buried in poll
Source: BBC

An online poll organised by Russia's ruling party suggests there is strong support for burying Lenin's body. Of more than 250,000 people who have voted in the poll, two-thirds so far say Lenin should now be buried.

The revolutionary leader's embalmed body has been on display in a mausoleum in Red Square in Moscow since his death in 1924. The debate about what to with his body resurfaces with every anniversary of his death - on 21 January 1924.

The unofficial poll was set up by some members of parliament for United Russia (UR), the party of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

3. Maybe they meant a "Pole"?
Another indignity the Poles must suffer at the hands of the Russians.

5. Maybe it's a typo. Maybe they'll just fling him into a 'pool'.
That would take some of the starch out of him, I'll bet.

6. You got me there!
From the distance in the low light he looked pretty bad but if that is a picture of what he looks like close with some light on him you are very correct. He looks smashing for a dead guy!

11. He really does. I've seen him...
Edited on Mon Jan-24-11 05:27 PM by Rhiannon12866
I was pretty amazed. He's been there since 1924 and looks as "good," or better than most you'd see at a wake today. I asked about that and was told that they have a special and secret method of embalming him and they redo it every 10 years... :wow: :scared:

On edit: Welcome to DU! :hi:

12. There's an old Russian documentary that aired only once I believe
but they showed the whole weekly (?) process of them cleaning the body.

(There are more 'revealing' photos if you Google...)

13. When I was there, they told me that they re embalm him every 10 years.
And that it's a secret process that's passed on from father to son. I was pretty amazed how "good" he looked, too, so I asked... He actually looks quite lifelike. x(

As you can see his head has hair while Lenin is quite bold.

22. That's Vladimir Lenin.
More of him than I ever expected or wanted to see. x(

I've seen his body lying in state in its tomb in Moscow and he had male pattern baldness. He's been there since 1924 and I was told that they reembalm him every 10 years.

If you look at Lenin's image he has no hair on top of his head, while this naked guy (whoever he is) clearly got hair. Which was obviously noticed (among other things) by most people commenting on the photos in that link.

28. I think LisaL's right...
Edited on Tue Jan-25-11 05:40 PM by Dennis Donovan
In the photo showing him in his tomb, his right hand is closed. In the pics of him hot-tubbing it, the fingers on his right hand are open. I'm guessing his finger joints aren't flexible after 86 years. However, you've been there so you would know. I guess I'm not sure...

Of course, that begs the question - who the hell IS in the hot-tub???

29. It is true that I've seen him, but I can only give my impressions...
The rumor was that, after all this time, he'd been replaced by a wax figure, so that's what I tried to decide when I got a chance to see him for myself. But it was tough, descending stairs in near darkness, while the miles-long line was constantly moving, and Lenin, himself, was under bullet-proof glass. I looked long and hard, and decided that he was real, but that was only my impression.

Whether the pix are of Lenin, I looked at those even more briefly x(, and I think it's impossible to know anything for sure at this point in history. We don't even know when they were taken and the mystery surrounding what actually happened to him, and the secrecy regarding the preservation of his body, is legendary. Russia has a long and painful history of intrigue, betrayal and power struggles that has gone on for centuries. I think it's impossible to know the truth about anything for sure, don't think anyone can now, and I can only give my impressions from a very limited perspective...

As for who's in the hot tub? I know that there's a list around here somewhere... ;)

...but the mummy in the hot tub pics is likely someone else. Perhaps it's the well-preserved remains of Cooley Hurd? ;-)

33. I still believe that it was Lenin I saw in Lenin's tomb...
But I don't know about the pix. As I said, it's impossible to know what they've done. For all I know, after 86 years, they've had to entirely rebuild him from scratch.

As for CH, I'm as sure as I can be that he's still with us... ;)

It has no real political meaning, so just leave it there so the gawkers will contine to spend their money.
